All bathroom rubbish goes into the bin in that bathroom (we have 4) and then when emptied OH or I will fish out the loo rolls and put those in the recycling before binning the rest.

ugh seriously would people put those things in a communal bin to lie and fester for god knows how long surely they should be disposed of either down the loo or straight into an outside bin

I went to view a house once and the potential landlady had her bathroom bin, which was just a waste paper basket full of dirty sanitary towels for everyone to see.

i have a 13 year old, and we have two bins, one that the liner pops out of for emptying for sanitary stuff and used tissues (not loo roll), the other is for everything else. I would just be happy if DD put the cardboard tubes and empty shampoo bottles in the bin rather than leave them in the shower, bath or on the floor.

My grandad had four daughters and having suffered from blocked drains due to towels etc being flushed, was absolutely evangelical about what was NOT to be flushed down the loo. I must admit to being absolutely mortified when, from the age of about ten, he would regularly question me on whether I'd flushed 'anything' (said meaningfully) apart from loo roll down the loo. Of course when I got older I'd get my own back by reeling off a long list of things that I might have flushed (from dead goldfish to drugs), trying to get him to say exactly what the 'anything' was. It was quite amusing watching him get flustered :)

Saw a programe on the work of drains/sewage people who were staggered these get put down the loo as it caused so many problems and couldn't understand why women did it, to which I shouted at the telly, 'because in this counry we have never been taught otherwise',lol.

It clearly says on the packets not to flush them. It never occured to me that anyone would flush them.

To these people saying they put them in the outside bin as soon as they have been to the toilet, do you really do this every few hours regardless of whether it is raining/dark/night time? I don't see what is wrong with them being in a bin for a day or two. That's what happens in public loos.

As for the women who takes them to work...

Thing is though, I haven't needed to read a packet of ST's or tampons for 30+ yrs as I know what they are for and how to use them IYSWIM, so I would never have seen it there. And I was specifically taught when young to tear them up and dispose of them down the loo. But I learnt better in the 90's and haven't done it since. I still think there ought to be a campaign by water/sewerage companies though.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
