The potential for damage to his daughter's soul by his insensitivity cannot be excused by his desire to do right by the planet.

I'd think it an entirely reasonable response if, in years to come, she feels that he cannot be trusted with her self - her privacy, modesty, hopes, fears, secrets, mistakes ...

Guys can I just point out that this is a new thing, it's not like our daughter has spent weeks/months/years being 'scarred' by her Father. :D I think maybe your comments were a little unfair to him.

He genuinely never considered it an issue and was astonished when we put him right on that. I suspect his male 'Army' type brain just wasn't thinking in the same way that our female 'delicate' brains were, on this issue. He's not a bad man in any way, he's just not always 'au fait' with women's thoughts. And I do think this is largely a female 'thing'. Most men wouldn't really care too much who rooted where, iyswim.

As I said earlier, the problem is solved now by my intention to have two bins. He now knows one is offline to him whilst the other is for the usual recycling and is 'safe' for him to be near. :rotfl:

if you think a moment - perhaps one bin for 'sanitary waste' which is out of bounds to males, and another for ordinary bathroom waste would solve the problem?

Thanks mer....but I said that several posts ago. :D

  • Your poor daughter. Regardless of age I would never want any of my family searching through the bin after me. How odd. Also how big is you bathroom bin?!? Sounds huge that he can go rummaging around in it. Ours would only take a bottle, a few balls of tissue and it would be full

No intention to be unfair to him. My comment was based on you saying that you had asked him not to do this, and he responded in a way which suggested you were overreacting to the issue. If its just a question that it never previously crossed his mind, and he's now going to stop doing it, I'm slightly bemused why you needed to poll opinion on which of you was being unreasonable :D

We have a small bin in the bathroom, if I see a recyclable item in it, I ask who put it in and then they ferret through and put it in the right place.

I was interested in how other people viewed this, simply because both OH and I both felt we had a reasonable point.

If I'm honest though...even if every reply on this thread had been along the lines of 'no big deal if the bin is looked though', I would have ignored you all and still felt the same. :D

Just as another sign of the difference in the way people (men/women) think......OH showed me a comment from a bloke who can't understand why women will happily walk about outside on a beach in a bikini but will shriek and try to cover themselves up if anyone was to see them in their bra and pants. Even if they matched. :rotfl:
