    I don't have a bathroom bin?

So what do you (and guests) do with bathroom rubbish?

I have been flushing tampons all my life and never had a drains problem. I can't see why they shouldn't be flushed. To be somewhat indelicate even when expanded they are still smaller than other things which go down the loo, and are they not ultimately quite water soluble? I always thought so, maybe I just never read the packaging.

I don't like bins, so we dont have one either in the house or the kitchen. We have recycling bins by the back door (outside) and a bin bag which is removed last thing every night to the main bin.

This short link explains better than I could why it is a huge environmental problem if these items are flushed.

Your reasoning, though a common one, isn't correct sadly.

I would have thought that tampons and their applicators could be made such that they dissolve though wouldn't you? Much like toilet roll? Obviously, I would never put an ST down the loo, but tbh, I never even thought about tampons:o I thought everyone flushed them....

Even dental floss shouldn't be flushed down the loo as at some point in the drainge system it can contribute to a blockage as it can get caught and other stuff tcan tangle up in it.

I learned this lesson the hard way, in our first home many years ago :eek::eek:
  • I never had a bathroom bin, never saw the need because I use a mooncup, no rubbish to deal with (plus the loads of other benefits :) ) so never had any need for one. but now my daughter is growing up the obviously she will be using sanitary items and so to lessen the embarassment I will have a bin in the bathroom
Whatever goes in the bin stays in the bin!
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

May I ask why you wouldn't just buy a mooncup for your daughter? I plan to get one for my daughter when she's old enough to need one. Is there a recommendation that says young girls shouldn't use them?

Applicators yes. Tampons probably not :D. They are intended to be used in a warm damp environment and to absorb liquids. I personally wouldn't want them to start to dissolve in situ!

Great subject for discussion as one cooks Sunday Lunch....

But obviously there would be timescales;) I expect (hope:eek:) they spend more time in the sewers/sewerage plant being processed than they do in situ so breakdown would occur then.
