    Or, how about:

Chav - Taz - Tique! Triple barrelled is the way to go as double barrelled is so... common now.

    Haha! Love it!:D

I toyed with the "-tique" spelling but figured that most chavs wouldn't know it (for them it would be the "Anteeks" Roadshow!), they prefer their phonetic spellings (and their Ks, they love their Ks!).

I'm worried now!! Not pregnant yet, but already have some names picked...therefore can people please vet them for me! Certainly don't what a chav name! I have Hollie, Olivia, Heidi, Iris, Giselle and Layla. For boys, we picked Finley, Max, Alex, Mason, Lucas, Oscar, Leo and Leon. Thoughts?!

Out of that list, I like Holly (but spelt with a y), Olivia (but very popular now), Max, Alex or Oscar. The others, whilst perhaps not to my taste, aren't terrible names though - Mason and Layla are the only two that I think have a bit of a chavvy edge, and even then only slightly so.

But then we all have different tastes in names, you might well not like the names I chose for my children! There's nothing shockingly horrible in your list though.

Why take a commonly spelt name (Emily) and corrupt it (Emilee)? Is it 'exotic'? Plain irritating for the child, more like. Poor sod will spend her life saying "It's Emilee, with two e's on the end, not a y".

But it shows that there is a lot of truth in the idea that some names are chavvy and give a bad impression, as you and I have, completely independently of each other, both picked the same 2 names from that list and identified them as being chavvy.
  • What does anyone think of the girls name, Marnie?

My old boss's daughter had that name and I always quite liked it.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the importance of the surname when choosing a first name. Some names just don't go together.

Oh god this! I'm stuck with a surname that means one name I really really like wouldn't ever work!

  • A guy I used to know had the name Chris Peacock.

I mean what were his parents thinking...?

Sorry, I don't like any of those (Emily/Emilie at a push but not Emilee).

I really like Marnie. Unfortunately it's the name of my best friend's cat so not really a contender for me :D
