It's just...common. Yuck.
Definitely the chav name of choice for a little girl, though usually spelled more "creatively" (eg Lilli-Mae).
Based on the OP's tastes, should she get surprised with a boy, I propose Kai or Kaiden, which I'd say are the most popular chav names for a boy at the moment.0 -
Totally agree. I hate it.
Similarly, I would put money on the 5 year old son of a classmate of mine; Deesal (that's Diesel - which in itself is appalling - misspelled) amounting to very little in life. Let's get real, he's not going to become a lawyer, is he?!
I know of a Jaimz... a BJ (actual name, not initials), a Jak... I could go on and on.
I've got a name that's the less-common of two spelling variants (but not a made-up spelling, just much rarer than the other version) and it's been the bane of my life. From as a kid wanting to buy things with my name on and never being able to - to as an adult having it constantly spelt incorrectly and in the end giving up on correcting people - I hate it with a passion and I wish my mother hadn't tried to be quite as clever and quirky (and it's nothing horrific either) - it can just be annoying as hell to have to live with.
Hence my insistence that our baby has to get a name that is either the long form of anything abbreviated into a nickname (got to have something to yell in full when they've really really misbehaved), or something traditional and conventional yet not really really popular (damn you Twilight for sticking Isabella right up in the charts cos I liked that name), and ideally something reasonably phonetically regular for the first few years of class Christmas card writing! Oh and not with the same initial as me and hubby have - I've got the same starting letter as my brother and the J.Smith post with no specified Miss or Mr was always annoying as well!
Daisy/Poppy etc always struck me as lovely names for little girls - it's just quite how they fit with a sullen teenager going through that gawky arkward phase that puts me off them somewhat.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I think Lily-May's cute (I'm not a chav don't worry Lol), I do like Amelia, Mille for short?0

Unfortunately this seems to be the case. Even when the parents choosing are seemingly at best ill-educated and shortsighted, and at worst self-indulgent and cruel.
I'm not saying the child is vile. In fact, that's exactly my point. By giving kids these awful names, parents are disadvantaging them in the future. Often, when it matters, a name makes a first impression.
How is an awful name like "Emi-Leigh" going to look on job applications? Can you seriously imagine a solicitor or doctor called "Emi-Leigh"? The name alone almost sentences the poor child to a life sat at a checkout.
I just wish people appreciated how important a name is, rather than indulging their desire to make names up and to flaunt a toddler with a name that's "fashionable" at the time.
Elvis has a point...first impressions are everything these days.0 -

I'm Sorry but what had started off as the OP asking a question about her baby girl has now turned into to a !!!!!ing fight?! People have different tastes.
OP call your baby whatever you feel is right, because the name won't change how your baby is brought up, or they way they are perceived by other people. Let us know how you get on0 -

Totally agree. Lily May or lilli mae as is the most 'popular' wy of spelling it, is rife amongst the most chavtastic parents at the moment. The amount of times I've heard that yelled in the past couple of years is enough to make my ears bleed!0 -

Now, I like that. But for a boy or a girl?
The spelling is a bit too [STRIKE]correct[/STRIKE] conventional, the OP would have to make it her own, y'know?
Maybe Chavvtas-Teek? Or Chav-T'steeyk?0
