Why do people have to change the spelling of names? Do they actually know how to spell them the original way?

For me, it is not clever or original to add as many 'iiiiii's or 'eeeee's as you can fit into a name nor is the lastest fad to have double barrelled names ending in 'Lee', 'Leigh' or 'Leeeeee' doing anything other than showing a leaning towards chav tendencies.

    Totally agree. I hate it.
I still believe that you can go down a list of names on a class list and tell what the parents will look like just by that information alone.

Similarly, I would put money on the 5 year old son of a classmate of mine; Deesal (that's Diesel - which in itself is appalling - misspelled) amounting to very little in life. Let's get real, he's not going to become a lawyer, is he?!
  • Have to be honest, not keen on any of them.

Daisy is ok, but it's my cat's name, so I wouldn't call my daughter it.
Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,
You don't even take him seriously,
How am I going to get to heaven?,
When I'm just balanced so precariously..

The general rule of thumb is "President or !!!!!! star?"

Look at the name written down AND said out loud and see which springs to mind...

Tehya, EmilEE and Tori are definitely more !!!!!! star :o
    EmilY is Presidential material.
Daisy could go either way :p. So could Tina, but it's traditionally short for Christina, which sounds more Presidential. (As long as it's not spelt Khrysteena).
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

Emilia is actually a completely legitimate name, quite separate from Amelia, and I think it's lovely.

I don't like names that are made-up, misspelt, or have made up meanings, they don't make your child any more unique or precious, it's their personality that will do that! All they do is give everyone trouble spelling them, and may make it hard for the child in later life.

Of the list, I like Daisy and Emily, the others are surely nicknames?
  • As SnowyOwl notes, Tori is often a shortened version of Victoria (also Vicky, Vic, Ria etc). Tina is a very common shortening of Christina (also allows for Chrissie, Chris etc)

Why not go with the extended version, and allow your child the luxury of self-determination later? You can use the 'pet name' as you choose.

I really hate to say it, but Elvis is right - I see mis-spelt 'fashion' names on CVs all the time and it really does look silly and twee. Don't saddle your child with something cutesy - she won't be a baby forever!

    Crossed with Ka7e on 'Christina'

    :jDebt free and loving it.
  • The only name that looks like a normal girls name from that list is Daisy, but I wouldn't say I like it. I agree with the bad spellings and made up names. I think people are far too quick to try and come up with something 'u-neek' than to think about any future implications a name may have.
  • I love Amelia, Holly and Roxie but I do also love Emily, probably not Emilee... But than again she's not my child Lol Lets us know what you call her!!

    How about;
    • Demi-Leigh
    • Leigh-Anne
    • Destiny
    • Courtney (or Courtney-Leigh if you're set on hyphenated)
    • Kay-Leigh
Or the Chav name of choice at the moment:
    • Lily-May/Lily-Mae/Lillie-Mae/Lilliey-Maey
