I drink one particular type of tea which is reduced occasionally by around 50 -60p, so when that happens I buy 15-20 packets. Same with other things like mayonnaise, cat food and so on. I'll stockpile anything I can save on that will keep. That's what garages are for, isn't it?
Some things I can't get here at all, like proper Indian pickles, so my DD picks those up when they're cheap. I'm just about to do a bank transfer for some jars she bought this week, but she only got a dozen, so I've sent her back for more! :rotfl:0 -
hiya peeps....
well the sun is blazing down here today. ive been gardening all morning.
ive checked and put in sunnier spots all my sprouting pots of lilies...[job lot last year] tho something has eaten some ???

goosegoggins hung onto the tail of one of my labs for venturing into its "space" but bless the dog, she never retaliated , so i had to rescue her... my dogs are so good !!...
bimble now plays regularly with the "fox in the woods" ?? odd sight !
im off to visit pops soon. he is up and down , has an infection and on oxygen at the mo.
i sold more stuff to that guy yesterday...amazing considering everyone said it was carp.....hahahahaha... and a stereo surround sound set up i was given , he gave me £200 for ,!!! dunno how i kept a straight face !

Def going to prep more for coming years, especially wood etc.
Was thinking the other night, and did start trying to put my thoughts into a post, but i just couldnt word it right:D, with money not increasing in value so to speak, and prices going up all the time... I am thinking about getting a stock of stuff ( when the pennies allow me) that will not go off, that we buy... tinned food, pasta, rice etc... will only have a certain amount of shelf life, but I was trying to think of other stuff that i could build a stock up on.. that is increasing in price all the time..
teabags ( notice i get my priorities right:p)
washing powder ( when on offer or glitch)
and thats as far as i got on ideas of stuff:rotfl:
basically prepping for future price increases...
Couldn't agree more CTC, our money buys less and less every month it seems. Food, booze (priorities!) and especially farm type stuff - in the last couple of months we've spent a lot on fencing materials, gates, corrugated roofing, gravel, god knows what else.
We've got some fencing stuff left over which the farmer doing the work was slightly mortified about, but there's more to do whenever we can afford it and by the time we come to do the work I bet everything will be dearer again so I said to him it was worth buying now for later.
I'm thinking about wood too - going to buy some cheaper unseasoned stuff now and let it sit til the winter, plus got a couple of trees to fell - we need to use our little fire more as I've been through almost 500 litres (£350) worth of oil since Early January :eek:I find it hard to strike a balance between being well stocked and having money tied up in purchases.
This is a dilemma for me too, do we buy something now, perhaps when we see it on offer, because we know we'll need it in future and it'll only be more expensive by then? I think it comes down to how much money you've got spare at that moment although I rarely think like that if I see a bargain :rotfl:
and actually I've regretted not picking something up when I saw it cheap only to have to pay more for it later0 -
Satisfying day, balance between selling and garden about right.
Cut back cupressus that was starting to shadow garden, weeded and topped up several raised beds with home made compost so that 7 beds are now ready for sowing/planting. Trimmed the variegated privet and the shaped cotoneaster.
One large compost bin is full of weedy stuff. So the plan is to cover with a cardboard layer and top up with the free farm compost to make a winter squash growing bed to plant out next month. It worked really well once before. Also need to go to local thickets and cut some hazel before it starts to leaf up to replace rotted bean poles
Alf, if he bought it off you for £200 I reckon he's got a buyer for twice that. Mind, I dont begrudge dealers making a decent profit if they have better sales contacts.
The sun has brought out more spring flowers and its almost cheerful if you ignore the cool wind.0 -
Just spent a few hours up at the ranch...
someone who's garden backs onto the lane ( our land is across the lane) is dumping their garden prunnings on our land:mad::mad::mad:
so tomorrow if the weather is nice we are going to start work on that part of the land, to try and get some more piggy pens ready..need to show them, that the lan is going to be used, and it is owned by US!!!
was going to do a bit of work up there, but there were so many walkers, stopping and talking about the pigs, and the new pens etc, we didn't get any work one:o:rotfl:
but we did get one person coming own and asking us about the pork...so even though I am going to hate saying this, as it is my dream to be up there 'pottering' around, it might be worth Hubby trying to be up full time, while I work out the money side of things etc...
right its time for a cuppaWork to live= not live to work0 -
Well I did do some gardening, just not in my garden :rotfl: we got a call asking for assistance and we all bundled round to a friends place to lend a hand. They helped us a few weeks ago and we are more than happy to help them in return, work always goes faster when there is a wee herd of people working. We also returned with some free goodies
On the subject of food, although my store are full I have just gone to make dinner and there is nothing I want to eat :rotfl:
One thing I always keep topped up is our medicine cabinet/first aid kit and I buy things for that when they are on offer, I never really thought about it until the year we all took ill at the one time and no one wanted to go to the chemist :rotfl:
I wonder if we could have ice-cream for dinner......Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
well, poor pops is still very poorly. the nurse said he still has an infection which all the antibiotics they have tried so far [4 weeks] have not altered it. he was out for the count so we left him to sleep.0

Alfie - Hope your Dad improves very soon. It must be a worry for you all.
CTC - good that you're getting stuck in to your new place.
One of the older Shetlands had a massive male lamb this morning. A topper and another black un.
After a couple of weeks of dry days it's rained and we have very low cloud. So that'll be the holiday hikers stuck up the mountains.....possibly.
Oh, eventually we got a lift in with our big winda. Had to pay three gut big guys to help. Starting to look house like now.
The hens got into the garden & scratched up my newly planted onion sets.........
We buy stuff when it's on offer - like coffee. We love a particular brand & it's dearish but it comes down a £1 a jar regularly, so we buy a few then.
Mr Choille bought a fishing rod out of LIDL so he'd better bring home the bacon.....dinner, for us & the cats a few times a month.0 -
Alfie...... hugs... hope he starts responing to the antib's soon..
just ready on anther thread, that there was something in the news about importing more wheat this year
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2304914/Freezing-British-weather-forces-UK-import-wheat-time-decade.html
it looks as though this year is not looking good for food prices.. if they got to import more of our staples, due to the weather:o:o
might be worth bearing this in mind... when planting your spuds...
I know they don't recommen it, but if i am growing spuds in containers/empty compost bags etc, I use the old potatoes that have starting sprouting that i bought from the supermarket...Work to live= not live to work0
