    well I am still confused:rotfl:

all I know is, we have a biker saying..

treat me good, and I will treat you better

treat we bad, and I will treat you worse......

I personally don't care who you are, a tramp, my lawyer, my best friend...as long as you speak/treat me nice, then I will do the same back, if you speak or look down at me, well you can bloody well piddle off, and I wouldn't have the time of day for you..

Also another way of looking at it, I wouldn't talk/look down at builders/grafters etc as lets be realistic, they can pay you back for the attitude etc you speak/show them, by doing the 'odd' mistake in their work;)

Anyway.... looks as though we are going to have a nice day today...weather wise..

Rhiwie... last week, so if you want to have a rummage with the bric-a-brac/books...just let me know.

Really cant wait for the Easter break.....think I would like to sleep most of it away:rotfl:

I think one example might be in not making all deliveries come round to the back door (a la Trademan's Entrance) - even in the pitch dark & pouring rain - like our latest incomer :rotfl:
Many incomers seem to think that country locals are all thick & should be wearing smocks & propping up gates, with a straw in their mouths.:(

Yep, you're confused ;) That was nothing to do with local law it referred to 'real snooty birks' & treating people as humans :D

Exactly my point. Nobody else round here does either

    ???????????????????????????

I might be less confused myself if you clarified what exactly confuses you :rotfl: but never mind.

Devon isn't like it was 50 years back. Our village is possibly 50% incomers, and with that high a proportion no one could generalise about them. Look at the lists of local positions held and people of all kinds are represented. I don't think where one originally hails from is an issue at all here.

True, it isn't like it was but it's still far from representative of the country as a whole.

For instance, how many foreigners live in your village, Dave? How many non-white faces do you see during the course of a week/month or year without going into the big places? The numbers of Eastern European workers has increased over the years but they mainly live in the towns or are live-in workers in the tourism industry.
For some the lack of foreigners may be the very reason they want to live in the countryside but they shouldn't then be surprised if they find themselves thought of as undesirable in much the same way as they thought of incomers to their towns or cities. It's just another form of the same prejudice.

Unless one really puts a foot out of line, things are seldom said to one's face but any perceived errors do the rounds of the local gossip - being either laughed at or moaned about.
Given time (& having not rocked the boat) there is acceptance but a good many people leave because they've gone about things in the wrong way (as far as locals were concerned) & ended up getting the collective cold shoulder.
After more than a quarter of a century we're now considered part of the scenery so we get to hear what's said about others. I'm not so daft as to think it wasn't said about us for the first years we were here....... & is still, to a lesser degree, said now I'd bet.
The next village is distrusted let alone someone from another county or country :rotfl:

    I like that.
Other people in the organisation did not understand how it was that staff at that site would bend over backwards if I asked for a favour. Historically they pretty much refused to do everything. All I had really done was to behave towards them in the manner in which I expected to be treated.

That what I was trying to say.

I think when my DD2's partner comes to visit, the non-white total doubles. :rotfl:

But I do remember the Devon of the 'olden days' and it isn't anything like that. Of course there's gossip, but I don't think much is malicious, and we hear plenty. Other villages may be different, as my earlier post implied. To an extent, people must take pot luck on the village experience when they purchase a property, if they've no one on the inside.

Naturally, there are family loyalties too. The guy we originally asked to do the barn probably didn't follow through because he's a relative of Mr Dog. Far too nice to say 'No' directly, but we understand.

Speaking of which, Mr Dog's relative was still digging and carting stuff away until yesterday, when a load of aggregate arrived. I know, because they brought it here first. There may be gossip aplenty, but no one seems to know what's going on there. I'll peep eventually, but I'm not expecting to see an underground dog kennel, unfortunately! :rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
Snobbery, and its twin, inverse snobbery, is both incoming and local in most rural communities. It's pretty useless in all its forms IMO.

Anyway, just a nature note......seen first open plum blossom. After late frosts last year and the light crop was hoping for a heavier crop this year. If the blossom bursts now I would say that's unlikely. :(

Another nature note, the lice season today opened here today, seriously catching us out. :o

A mobile inspection centre was set up immediately and all hens treated, though not all appeared to have them. That was the sunny bit of the day gone, and egg withdrawal for a week won't please our customers. :(

We'd only just been able to restore the diatom dust bath, so not surprising I suppose. What do you folk do about the blimmin things?

Just the usual treatments mentioned before for mites. We didn't really suffer from either of them much but they must be a pain if rife.

A bigger problem here (but not so much for the fowl) are the ticks which thrive on bracken. It's a constant battle for anyone with animals ..... & for those that are silly enough to walk around in shorts.

Ticks, like that certain lager, can reach the parts that others fail to reach  :rotfl:

BTW we've only had a downpour but inland they've had terrific hail which laid like snow.

Hmmm, given myself the onceover and cant see any lice, but will iron the seams of my clothes just in case :p

Alf, best wishes to your Dad.

CTC, bit chaotic here with DW away, GS not right at all, hope he starts to improve soon. Stopped listing as house/family duties and packaging taking enough time. Just seen Ebay's latest impositions. Bang goes my TRS status. Checked with RM and we dont quite have sufficient volume to qualify for a business account

Tradesmen via the front entrance . I'll have none of that at Rhiw Towers :D. Seriously, one engineer who services our boiler will only enter via the utility room door. Super guy who does the kind of thorough job you really appreciate.

Spring is still around the corner. Cant believe how held back it is this year, last year at this time it was drought and a heat wave.
