It is drizzly and freezing today  so absolutely no chance of me doing anything outside :rotfl:
So I am going to ficus on my home over the next few weeks in the hope that it is in order by the time the garden is ready for real attention.
I really need to tighten up our finances as our money seems to trickle away every month without really making an impact, maybe I should take a toddle over to some of the other boards and give myself a kick. It is tricky though when the other members of the family are not on board
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Rum we, it's snowing here. On wet, waterlogged ground as yesterday we had buckets more rain and lots of hail.

Glad I'm not alone, I sometimes think I am the only one on here that hides indoors in grim weatherTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Not exactly wonderful here, but occasional sun and the temperature thingy says 6.3c as I type.
I shall continue to stay outside if this holds. At present I'm building a new nest box and also watching some guys cutting down a 60' conifer in the farmhouse garden. They're up on a cherry picker with chain saws and I'm imagining how big the bonfires will be!
We had another visit from our partridges this morning. They began visiting yesterday, but last year we had them for weeks, on & off. Might not be the same birds of course. I've also seen a skylark on a couple of occasions in the past week, so it's feeling a little more 'springish' at Snave Acres.0 -
LIR.... hugs to you..
Davesnave... hopefully only a few more weeks and the weather will be proper spring like...pheasants...are they ok, or do they cause problems on your land???
Rummer....I am on back on the money-making-finding- saving mind set, as in reality we need scaffolding etc.. and x amount of money to start and finish one job at a time.
Basically once we start one side of the house, it will need to be finished, not really something that could be stopped and started...
In all honestly I think its going to be another good year, before we could even think it being habbitable.
I have had other work relate things to worry about last/this year, but hopefully things will be alot more manageble in the next few weeks..
What our problem is, time management:cool: It just seems to disappear before our eyes:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
Pheasants don't do any real harm here. We have harems of hen pheasants traipsing along in single file :rotfl: The !!!! (yep you guessed - censor) pheasants spend their time trying to impress. The worst thing is the noise when they try to fly. It seems a biological impossibility for them to take off without making the most raucous row
Dave has partridges. The little fat fellahs
The heron is still stalking the ponds. He's been down next to the house this afternoon. We found a dead lamb in the water
I'm with Rummer & LIR. There's nothing outside that can't wait for better weather.0 -

But, but, but...we've had a glorious afternoon here.:D No wind either. I dare say it wasn't that warm, but I was hedging again from 3 30pm onwards, so I had more of a problem keeping cool with the necessary protective clothes on. (That's another pair of gloves ruined too!)
We have just one male pheasant kicking around here currently and there are never more than two or three. The big rearing & shooting areas are a way from here. I don't know what happened to the birds I was promised this season, but I suppose the weather put paid to many shoots. I don't mind; it's cheap sandwich meat, but I can live without it.
I like the partridges. I know my Dad used to go poaching and shoot them during WW2, but he had an excuse. I'd not want to harm them. They are such gentle birds, and one appeared to be eating hairy bittercress this morning, which is a definite thumbs up!
Apparently, the "60' tree" I watched being felled this morning is not one, but a line or group of trees, and they're only about 40'. They didn't cut them all. Maybe they ran out of room. So much for my reporting skills.0 -
It's been foul here davesnave. Today we mainly had rain, but also snow that settled for a short while up on the big hill, till the rain came back and washed it all away.0

It was sunny here this afternoon, too, but after 26 years the groundwork etc. has all been done. The hedges to be laid were done before Christmas (I don't do them myself now although I used to) & are now ready to shoot.
It's just planting & the perennial tidying/mowing etc. that has to be done & it's pointless doing that yet. It's still too darned cold.
There are no big shoots around here, either, Dave. The pheasants have either always been here naturally, are descendants of some that came across the moor many years ago or are successful survivors of someone's fowl collection more locally.
I've seen partridges here but not for years now. There was a group of red-legged partridge which used to potter around the lane. I think they probably lost out to the many predators, sadly. Such tiny things don't stand much chance really. If something doesn't stalk them & pick them off then the buzzards & similar swoop down & take them but that's nature - not always nice.0 -
Yukky here as well. Been to outdoorsy type place to get DDs boots ready for when she goes to Thailand for a month.
Just thinking (always dangerous) that by May I'll have 4 teenagers. Please give me strength!
DS1 turns 18 in just over a weeks time.
Trying to put together a servicing tender for a golf club, its our first time at tendering and its causing some stress. It would be a great help to cash flow if we won it.
