The dining room is progressing well and I am now turning my thoughts to art work for there are the rest of the house as the pieces we had don't really fit the new decor. We love collecting original (affordable) pieces often on our travels however we need a different type of art work this time. I would really like some more etchings as I adore them
Out of curiosity how many tomato plants would you grow for personal use? I am never sure how many to grow on?
Rummer, what kind of etchings? I see quite a lot on my auction travels, often at reasonable prices.
Re toms I need to think with my head rather than my heart. Not supposed to eat things with seeds/pips but I love growing toms and the taste of them as well
But if you want to make tom puree/passatas for freezing as well as eating when ripe then you could grow maybe a dozen+ plants?0 -
ITSME and MR ITSME
hope you are ok today, as I should imagine today is a traumatic day for you...My heart is with you today....Work to live= not live to work0 -

when we lost barney [30] it was sad but he had the best life.
when i lost my old choccy [28, had from 6 months old] he died quietly in his sleep so i was spared that.
but i know people like us ,on this forum, love all thier animogs and thier welfare is paramount . from a chook to a horse....0 -
Speaking of chooks...
I went out this morning leaving house empty( very rare) came back and two chickens are missing. Grrrrrrr. I am fed up of this. No feathers anywhere.0 -
Well I lasted an hour in the garden before retiring to the couch with a coffee :rotfl: I got two of the paths cleared and DD picked up all the rubbish that had been blown in, which was a lot.
We have decided that little and often is the way ahead with the garden and weather permitting we are going to aim to do a couple of hours a week so that when the spring comes we can focus on planting instead of the huge amount of work currently awaiting us.
Rhiwie I am not really sure exactly what we are looking for but I will have a look around and when I have a clearer idea I will turn to you for some guidance.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Could they be laying away, LIR? Or could it be something like a mink? We lost several birds with no trace until the mink got too cocky & tried pulling a large duck through a small hole _pale_ It came back in daylight when the door was open to collect the rest of its' spoils & DH shot it.
So glad the tooth is sorted now, alfie.
They've just taken the old boy away. It was a bit hard to relax with him laying out there.
We've got a new townie in the cottage next door who has a dog (more than one but one in particular) which keeps escaping & coming round here. It snaps at the ponies heels so between the carrion birds, foxes & the dog, I was a bit concerned it might wreak havoc if it found him. Every bark ....... & boy, does it yap on & on, I was up checking.0 -
Well done rummer. It's so cold here and I am having such problems with the cold I haven't even tried.
And we never did get to look at sleepers today.
But dh proudly told be he has bought two millefleur bantams. He has wanted them for ages so I just popped and picked them up, they are lovely, very tame.0 -
Hi all, hope everybody is ok.
After some advice and I'm hoping you chaps can come up with the goods. I'm getting myself confused on google (it doesn't take much!). How can I find out how much it would cost to self build a house?
In an ideal world (aiming high here) I'd like 6 beds with at least 1 ensuite, office and large utility room. Once I've scared myself to death with the figures I can tweak it later. Thanks

We wasted half of the lovely day by visiting a special event at the local stove centre, having much the same conversations we've had there before. However, this time I've booked a visit from their installer, who will come out and see our plans & make suggestions.
Back at home we had a large delivery of logs from a new supplier. They had to go in the garage, as we have another softwood delivery coming tomorrow and there's no room in our usual place. These logs were the driest we've had this winter, but the lady still apologised for their condition. Next year we shall be very well stocked with totally dry wood, like that in the all the woodburner showrooms!:o
Having stacked wood for ages, I trundled off to do battle with the hedge. I managed to put in a couple of hours, mainly dragging out nasty stuff, rather than laying. Eventually, I slid into the stream and got a bit wet, so took that as a signal to finish, but by then it was 5.15pm. So, the days are certainly lengthening out now! :j:j
Self -build lucielle? Do you mean building by yourselves with input from trades, or to manage builders who do all the actual building?
EDIT: Alfie, good news:beer:, but I remember when the drugs wore off! Do you look like a hamster? I did.0
