Well yestuday.... I done something constructive for the new place... even though we dont have the keys until april....
Got house insurance with the NFU ( thanks davsnave for heads up) and you automatically get public liability with it...the overall cost was £300... which considering the structual work that needs doing, sounded good... Plus he told me about a welsh initative (sp) called farming connect, which is free to join, but you have to have a holding no, so i have got the forms being posted out to me to register for a holding number:T..
I had to go through our local NFU branch for the insurance.... and i send him the property details.... and he said he thought it was a very good price..... some property developer gave him some advice years ago..... which was......allways buy a bad/cheap house in a good area, rather than a good/expensive house in a bad area...
That looks fab, CTC. What a coincidence with the names of our locations: just add -hill to mine! And it's the same Auctioneers. Amazing price too, I think (wish we'd got our's for somewhere near that). I can't see how you'd regret it. And as you say, you can't change the location, so you've bought in the right place. The only thing is now to find the funds to do it up, eh?
I've been experiencing a bit of that anxiety as we've had the quarryman up there again today and at £24 per hour with his big digger, the money soon mounts up! He's prepared the ground though and knocked down all the naff old boundary walls too which we can use to save money on purchasing hardcore. I just hope this is a cost effective way of doing it. The quotes we got for putting in a hardstanding from the contractors were double what he quoted but with an hourly rate instead of a fixed cost, the price can soon mount up and we've also had a bit of "mission creep" with him levelling the land and "tidying up".0 -
went up there today to show our friends... and they just could get over the price we had it for, on the quiet, one of our friends offered my hubby 1ok over what we paid for it... He was gutted, He said if he known about it, he would have been bidding too..lol..
They used to breed pigs up until a few years ago, but stopped as it wasnt worth it, as the prices at market were low.... They are going to help us set up, and take us to the farmers market, to bid/buy some weaners....
only took the one pic... but will take some more over the next few weeksWork to live= not live to work0 -

Looks great! I am already mentally pruning things!
I've just sent Maggie the details.0 -
Yep, ctc did very well indeed.
Less exciting day here, got delayed on a trip out to pick up chicken feed, by a girl in trouble with her horse then came back and did some weeding in the long border. Second run through this year already. Cleavers have now joined the ground elder...grrr.
Then, put the strawberries from the pots they were sharing with fig trees into the already overfull rows of strawberrys in the long border and into a feeder we dug up in a ditch last week. Too many strawberries, yet probably too few to gate sell! We have loads of alpine ones to find a home for tomorrow, really not sure where though.0 -

CTC that will look so pretty when it has been tidied up
What is the condition of the house inside? Does it require oodles of building work or is it cosmetic?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
