Rozee... dont start doing business plans yet:rotfl: this is wales we are in:D... Prices of livestock do tend ( on average ) to be cheaper than in other places...
It might be worth you going to ffair fach.. poultry and general auction on the last saturday of every month....
It has been going for years... and this is the place people tend to get better prices than any other auction around.... ( some people buy at the small 'back street' poultry auctions, to re-sell them at ffairfach)
Ffairfach is very close to Llandeilo....
I dont know if you get any magazines... but over the years i have subscribed to the smallholders mag..... there is a good range of topics covered.... If you like i can send you some back copies... to see if its the type of magazine.... you would like and gleen fromWork to live= not live to work0 -
Can someone do me a HUGE favour and send Rummer and Rozee the file on the house please:beer:.....The file is on the puter in work, and i dont know why but i am having problems with lappy at home....( its prob not the lappy but me:cool::p)
Well yestuday.... I done something constructive for the new place... even though we dont have the keys until april....
Got house insurance with the NFU ( thanks davsnave for heads up) and you automatically get public liability with it...the overall cost was £300... which considering the structual work that needs doing, sounded good... Plus he told me about a welsh initative (sp) called farming connect, which is free to join, but you have to have a holding no, so i have got the forms being posted out to me to register for a holding number:T..
I had to go through our local NFU branch for the insurance.... and i send him the property details.... and he said he thought it was a very good price..... some property developer gave him some advice years ago..... which was......allways buy a bad/cheap house in a good area, rather than a good/expensive house in a bad area...Work to live= not live to work0 -

Should I be thinking about getting registered as a smallholding? Can you buy fowl without one?
You can have upto fifty without registering.
Registering is however, imo, good practice in case of disease outbreak. I made lots of effort to stay below fifty where i was last, not wanting hassle of moving with documentation.0 -
We were still listed as a farm when we bought this place, although it hadn't been a farm for a few years (the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly) so it was a case of winnowing out what was relevant & what wasn't from the enormous piles of paperwork that regularly fell through the letterbox.
If you only have a few acres it's more a case of keeping an eye on current regulations & tips than being eligible for many perks.
As LIR says, knowing things like maximum number of animals/birds allowed, what ear-tagging, animal passport type things you may need is important if you don't want to fall foul (or fowl even) of the Man from the Ministry.
It's also useful for staying abreast of what's happening during disease outbreaks - although in the past (thinking Foot & Mouth) they were often one step behind.
I have the link you sent to me, CTC, if that's the one you'd like PMd to Rummer & Rozee....... if it hasn't been taken offline having been sold.0 -

That link now goes to the new batch of auction properties.
I will ferret around later and see what I have, but I think it's only the legal pack, which isn't like EA particulars.
Edit: Found it in the auction results and PMing it to rummer & rozee now....0 -

Rozee, we're a bit careful about what we're doing in our garden, we'd love a pond, but have decided not to do one till the GrandTwins are older. Country living is scary with kids - my Mum was brought up in Dolgellau (Merioneth/Merionydd) , and she was always telling horror stories. I used to love visiting my grandparents though, and rampaged through the woodland behind their house, though was very scared of the snakes there. Remember finding one and my Uncle chopping it up into pieces with an axe on a tree stump and all the bits keeping on squirming!
The buds on our magnolia began to burst open about 3 days ago now, but still not got an open flower. We didn't prune it last year as the build was going on at the house when we should have done it, and it looks as if we're going to have a real show of flowers this year. :j
OH is out weeding, it's a bit too cool for me as can't work up a sweat gardening, shame as it's a perfect day for heavier garden work. Just hoping we have clear night tonight so can see the wonderful planetary configurations.0
