A quick look around on-line for flue brushes reveals there aren't as many as I expected out there. Silverline tools are always cheap, but they're a mixed bag. Some, like my footpump, are a bit of a joke:(, while others are OK.
Scattered showers today lasted most of the time, so I started to wire up the polytunnel for some basic electrics. I only want a couple of sockets and a light in there, as the days of keeping stuff marginally frost free, even with a highly tweaked fan heater, are probably over...;)0 -

Now I know this is a daft concept, but I think it was Tom Petherick who wrote about keeping the chickens in the G/H or polytunnel. Do you think it would work if the coop was in the tunnel connected to the run outside? The heat from 20 hens would prob keep the tunnel frost free0 -
Davesnave, I might have another look and see what other makes are on the bay before I Buy those ones...
Agreed a price with my van insurance today and we keep the van...so we can now use it as a wood/animal/ crap storage:D in the spring we will advertise some of the parts on ebay..

I love that view. It gives me joy.
The starts here were AMAZING tonight. We don't normally do night time with the kids, but we went to the Urdd Christmas Service in Blaenffos and came home after 7pm. Never seen so many stars, even in Aus. I think we might have been the only full English family there. The whole service was in Welsh. gratifyingly, I understood much of it.
beautifull ,rozee, you have picked well0 -

The idea of a chicken-heater has certainly been mooted in Permie circles. I recall a discussion about the practicalities on Rob Hopkin's blog a few years ago as well.
Not sure how many watts a chicken is, but I understand that average human is about 200W but get less value as it grows older. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

We broke our VERY old rod poles etc while trying to clear old crows nests etc from the chimleys at the ranch, so I was thinking of buying hubby new rods etc for christmas:cool::rotfl::D
As I say I am thinking practicality here, not silly presents that will be open on crimbo morning, looked at, laughed at, then put down, and to be put in a cupboard to gather dust for eternity..
Seen these on the bay, what do you think? seems cheap to me, but to be honest prob cant afford super-douper, strong pucker ones

my goosegoggins and ducks have lived in my greenhouse for the last year. i put a tarpaulin over it to insulate but light in the front. they love it....:D
i stand in the garden and say "come on ,go to bed" and they all troop in ,good as gold..:rotfl:0 -

hmmm, chooks have higher body temps than people but much better insulation. But even if they are emitting only 20W of heat each thats still 240W from 20 chooks. Possibly not enough to keep tunnel frost free though.0 -
The mention of heating greenhouses and using chickens have got me mooching around, so if i put loads of links to total carp 'sorry':D:D
to start with i found this, i think its a solar panel heating some sort of under floor/tank etc of water or an i wrong:rotfl:
