Hi All,
back from auction, flipin noras it was knee nobbling cold...
wasnt anything much to talk about, but i did have 3 4ft short clothes rails, which will be great for next week, £12 each, more than what i wanted to pay, but were alot cheaper than buying new...
a large travel trunk, in fairly good condition... ( some damp marks etc at one end, that was £18. ( will use it for displays or flog it)
and I bought a wooden lectern for a £1
Alfie, have you still got the fire bricks????
I May need urgent quick help, is anyone good at designing a leaflet/ price tags????
Spoke to our friend who does all my printing yeaturday, with what I want etc, and he hasnt got back to me with the proofs etc, My boys are both playing a gig on wednesday night in town, and it would have been an ideal time to get some sort of flyer handed out..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Those 'slim pickings' sound pretty good CTc.
Cold here, but not as old as elsewhere, another mse chum said there was snow on her car this morning.
Today we got eight foot fence poles and drove them into the ground and then put five foot tall windbreak on them. They are not quite straight, lol, or as private as the hedge of course, but better than the balness of nothing at all.
Tomorrow we will rake it, but probably not get to start turning it. We have a half dozen potted yews to plant, but the rest will have to be bare roots.
Got the three small front garden trees planted (well, they are six feet, but they look very weedy infront of the hedge they are planted by). I can see some shaping I would like to do, but next year will do..
Horrid, horrid rally driving somewhere within earshot today, drove dh quite up the wall.
Anyway, had a good, fun, and busy day. Back tinged right near the end. I can live with that, it's not too bad and it was after a day DOING not sitting around. That feels better.0 -
hellooooo

RHIWI...what do you think i can sell that old thing [organ/piano ??] for ....do you reckon i could get £50 ??:p0 -
Parky here this morning, with ice on the cats' water outside the back door. Polytunnel max/min thermometer read 0.9C in there, but I'd fleeced everything sensitive.:D
Pete is coming to do fencing here on Monday, so as the wind was right, that gave me the excuse I needed to finish burning the remaining leylandii trash and the rest of the heap that had built up over summer. That took most of the day.
I'm whacked now, and very smelly, but that's all the rubbish sorted out. Just the main stems to saw up now. A bit like pheasant; there wasn't as much on them as I expected!
Lir, I'd have said your rally driving was probably near the works where they've done a lot of landfill, but you've had the same winds as us, so not sure if it would have carried your way. Dogs have been quiet today, as someone's home, so they've been locked in the shed in most of the time.0 -

That's an old reed church organ? Condition looks iffy, I expect you to be pumping the pedals testing it outIf it works ok then why not start off at £50, its the kind of thing that normally gets a single bid.
LIR, glad you're holding up
Looking after the GDs all morning, so no gardening today. Both hens in moult, like a mini feather storm.
Nice and warm here (inside by the fire!)0 -
Alfiekins, you are a sweetheart:T, also shop fitting units???????:D:D:D
hope everyone remembered the clocks went back..
Why is it this time of the year, you hear more people dying, this week alone 2 people that we know ( not really but one was a close friend's father) have sadly passed away.:(
When I hear this it does really make me guilty about being a moaning minnie:eek:....plus hubby is 50 on tuesday, and one of the blokes who died wasnt much older than him:o
anyway on a brighter note.....I'm a celeb is starting soon, havent got a clue who is in yet, anyone heard or read anything???Work to live= not live to work0 -
We remembered the clock change, but ignored it, we will take our extra hour tonight if we can.
Not too frozen here, just nippy. After a great day yesterday my back and other places are warning me from the get go they will not tolerate another day the same. My body and I will negotiate a half way
Point as there is still loads to do today!0 -
We've not had a frost yet here, at 42 metres above sea level and 1 mile inland from the Thames but we've only escaped by one degree. I'm bringing the chicken's water in every night now, and my chillies and other things I want to overwinter will need to come in. In case of nasty bugs, I shall dust them all with diatomaceous earth before they come in and the cat will probably be losing the windowsill he likes to sit on so they can still get as much light as possible.
Apart from that, all relatively normal. We remembered the clocks, but I've had a headache since 10 last night and an extra hour of that wasn't very welcome
Are aubergines perennials, or can they be? Or is it better to start again next year?"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -
I remembered the extra hour, but then dropped it down the back of the fridge.....
Feels positively tropical here after yesterday morning. No wind.
Someone bought us an electric weather station and set it up so we wouldn't have to read the big manual. All well & good, but the night before last I was woken by a new "beep,"coming from this thing. It was a frost warning, as if I didn't know..... I pressed various buttons and it went quiet, but last night it was off again. As I couldn't seem to quieten it, I put it in one of the spare bedrooms, under a pile of washing......:D
This weather station has always been an hour slow, which I thought might be due to British Summertime. Now I look, it has indeed re-set itself..... and it's still an hour slow! ......Oh, and it only gives us the weather for Cardiff.
Ah, I was going to give rhiwie a weather forecast, but now I see we have lost contact with the outdoor transmitter......:rotfl:0 -

The only year I grew them, mine took so long to reach a decent size, they'd gone bitter and pithy when we tried one.
I have a suspicion yours will be the same, so the best thing would be to taste whatever you have now.
Neat idea about the diatoms on the peppers.;) Mine always get greenfly in the winter.0
