Just got back from seeing Itsme & Mr Itsme, lovely welcome and best coffee I've had for ages.
Satnav nearly had us over a cliff on the way and gave up entirely after we left
Interesting early Victorian hotel in town we found later, almost expected Poirrot to appear, he would have recognised the original carpeting
Back to Wales tomorrow, thanks for the hospitality peeps and I expect the sun to appear for you now!
 Did the sat nav really give up?
:rotfl::rotfl:
Would that hotel be the Valley on the bend by the church by any chance? It's a Shearings stop. You should see it at Christmas. It's like Waiting for God with hats & whistles :rotfl:
Did it rain the entire time after you left us? Still steadily going here.
A joy to meet you both. Safe journey home. Now you know where we are we'll expect you again next time you're this side of the water.0 -

Just heard this on the news
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/10/05/uk-ofgem-brief-idUKBRE8940DP20121005
do you think this is scaremongering? genuine? or easing us in to more major price hikes?
Bought 2 pumpkins for £3 in the co-op on the way home... for piggies, but I might have a look at some recipes for one of them..
Right off to start a f.a.c.e.b.o.o.k page for the pigs..:DWork to live= not live to work0 -

They've been saying this for some time now. Probably true if we remember the old winter of discontent & how soon we were being rationed.
I think country dwellers tend to be more adaptable than those in urban areas, though. Often that comes from a case of having to be :rotfl: When you're at the end of a long overhead cable you get used to power outages - rain, lightning, gales, snow, cars hitting poles & animals chewing through them ....... they all seem to have the possibility for the need for a candle or torch about 'em :rotfl:0 -
Yep. Good reason for those of us with renewable systems to keep fireplaces/ woodburners even if we think they'd only be for special occasions ( ours will not be! ) and to know where the candles and matches are. At least unlike city folk, we have plenty to get on with without needing electricity!0

I can remember the winter of discontent in the 70's
My proper father ( parents then devorced) having a car battery with a car head wired up to it, we didnt have central heating, just coal fires..
I did start telling hubby to keep an eye out for candles..on his travels..
so I will have to make sure I keep them in a box that I can get too, or better still actually in the house and not in work or the caravan:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -

This is what I find ridiculous about the newer oil-fired Agas & Rayburns which all require (or, at least they did when I last looked) electricity to fire up. I know most people in the countryside tend to have generators available but the old models (or the gravity fed oil conversions) are still worth their weight in gold in the countryside because of this. So, the CH pump may stop but we still have hot water, a warm kitchen & can still cook. I can even - if really pushed & have no oil - cook, boil kettles etc. in the inglenook. :rotfl:0 -
4th attempt to post after losing prev 3!!
Itsme, satnav wouldnt track sats for about 3 miles, but we found main road ok. Yes, that was the hotel, faded grandeur and what did they do to the galleries round the atrium??
Still chucking it down but dont worry, it will be sunny as soon as I go back
Mostly agree with LIR's post, but prolonged power outs would be an issue.0 -

I haven't been in the Valley for about 15 years so I don't know what it's like now. Believe it or not they were refurbishing all downstairs at that point!. Even back then the galleries had been boarded up..... & that was before the total madness of Elf & Safety really got going.
It was probably a fire issue. The atrium made a lovely chimney.
