I must admit I miss my 'couponing' days...
Know how you feel Alfie... been feeling like poo most of the week, like a cold is just about to break out...
A friend of ours who used to have pigs said a strange this this afternoon, asking us if we had cameras watching the new place, and the pigs????? you know what its like, someone mentions something in such a way, you start thinking why did they say that, and you think what are they thinking, and what are they going to do( sorry but I have really gone bad over the years in thinking like this) so been searching and found a wireless security camera, that you can see the images on you phone, so might get one tomorrow... for peace of mind... to watch the pigs..
they where probably NOT wanting to say out right that someone might nick your pigwigs, incase you got upset...not that THEY would take em..:D
maybe whilst people passing think they are pets, they are the people that will keep a protective eye out for you. so dont put a sign up maybe?
a camera is an excellent idea. dont focus on the pig house, suggest focus on the gate/track bit. point of entry..:)
but please dont get paranoid. i was for the 1st YEAR of mabel. but then so many people said they loved her and always looked in when passing...my personal guard dogs0 -

This is one of my criteria for choosing a new place - being relatively easy to secure against thieves. Given my plans/hopes, I wouldn't want to get up one morning to find years of hard work stolen. We have a Foscam wireless camera, about £60 from fleabay, which we bought to have in the hall for when the kids were constantly coming and going with friends and we didn't know who was in or out or with whom. It's been great. We'd have another one in an instant! It's motion-activated and records in chunks of two minutes at a time. The infra-red side of it is pretty good too for in the dark.
Nothing new here, door frame painting which is not helping my sore throat - I also feel like I have the beginnings of a cold but I've had the bad throat since Wednesday with no other symptoms except lack of concentration at work. Hope everyone poorly or nearly so feels better soon, all those in need of a hug have one from me :grouphug:and everyone keep warm and safe!"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -
Grr, we have woken up with colds. Not very bad ones, not yet anyway!
We have to collect some paint for the builders then also hoped to have chosen our top coats but we seem to have reached an impasse over that. Oh dear. (I want to get the top coats done on the walls where rads are going, they are being soldered in and it's all just much easier if we don't have to try and reach behind etc.0 -
It's funny, I've felt like I've been fighting off a cold for about a week, but it seems to have given-in now.
Securing against theft is really tricky, which is maybe why so many smallholders have dogs. But a dog isn't without cost, and not many of us would have dogs running free all night and all the time we're away from the ranch. Even Mr Dog's dogs are penned-in, so wouldn't be able to do anything if someone wanted to burgle the house. As they've barked a lot in the past, no one would take any notice of that either!;)
Perhaps the most effective first step is to buy in a low crime area. Checking with Police UK, we've had one reported burglary in the last 3 months around here, including the small town nearby. However, it wasn't that long ago that someone pinched a chain saw from a property within 100 metres, and the scary thing was that they did it in the 1/2 hour when the dog was out for a walk. They just took one of four. Someone with local knowledge?
Our security is mainly the eyes and ears of others and a few locks, but as someone remarked to me recently, "I keep my shed locked, but not too well, as I have a break-in every year or two and it's more bother mending it if I make it more secure." That shed's almost half a mile from anyone, so it's very vulnerable. There's nothing of value to a thief kept in it.
I'd love that security camera, but my 'puter is too far from our lower yard for a wireless signal to reach, and that's where we'd need it, mostly.0 -

It went through my mind when you said that people passing could see the pigs & even come up to scratch them. Sometimes there is rustling but sometimes they'll kill in the field & take away
Not a very nice world we live in.
Speaking of which, I'm expecting to get some abuse from another board for telling people they were making pompous presumptions :rotfl: Why is it that 'converts' are often unbearable?0 -
Well, we're a right load of old crocks, aren't we? :rotfl:
I've been walking around for days with cotton wool stuck in my ear (sinusitis) & feeling like the cotton wool has expanded to fill the whole skull.
It comes of washing my hair - which takes most of the day to dry, getting cold & then going to bed with the hair still not quite dry0 -
morning ...no, afternoon...
having seen where piggies are at CTCs i think they are safe. its almost too open and if anyone was creeping round at night...best of luck!! they will end up lost for weeks if they took a short cut through the undergrowth behind em !!
and im sure if anyone was to encounter CTCs OH in the dark trying, then i will be rich cos id have a large bet on OH winning.....;) :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Yay! Roger has cut his hedge so we can see the valley and the town out front again! :T
Must've had quite a lot of rain last night, when I was away in the land of nod. The stream was going like a train when I walked down there. All the annoying little sticks that I still had to pick up have sailed away in the night......0 -
Upper Taw currently heading downstream.
