God, of i grew toms li,e that just once i would be happy!

Tis nothing but big poly bag pots with pig manure in the bottom and my plant compost the rest of the way. I do feed and I like to grow flowers in them to encourage the bees and hoverflies.

Outdoors in Bath, my Gardeners Delight used to go to about 8'. The tunnel roof goes up to 10' 9", but I stop them way before that. After all, I'm only 5' 4" !!!

It's peppers I can't really get the hang of. I have them now, but they're hardly prolific. I know the season's partly to blame this year though.

Ate my first Shark tonight, but it was an immature one, and it ended up as one of half a dozen veg in a Chinese stir-fry, so didn't really notice.:o I stuck a lot of the huazontle in it too, but again, it just disappeared in the general flavour of star anise, ginger and garlic! Tried to count the Sharks of football size and up today.....got to 13 and gave up! :rotfl:

The butterflies have been really numerous at this end of summer, alfie. There were hardly any at all in June. Hope they have caught up with themselves now.

I'm very lucky having a friend who works in the woodburning stoves line.:D There's a rival company having an event this coming weekend though, so I will defect slightly to see what they have. ;)

TELL A LIE £7.49........... IVE BOOKED MY FLIGHT TO THE BAHAMAS.....:rotfl::rotfl:
  • Got my sales figures for last week in work, so will post them later, lol... Alfie not much more than you....

Doing a bit better this week though...

The workmen are starting our road today ( part of the planning agreement, thy had to re-surface our road) asked them if they would use their mini digger to scoop out the duck pond ( well hole in the ground:D) as it has just grunged up big time...

Sun is out, but there is a cold nip in the air... hubby lite the fire last night and burned some wood, just to take the chill out of the air, normally it is well into October before we light the fire..

  • Morning everyone! Hope you're all well.

I'm getting rid of all my smallholding magazines (Smallholder, Country Smallholding, a couple of Grow Your Own etc) and a couple of books. If anyone wants them for the price of the postage please drop me a PM.

(The declutter started last night... long way to go though!)

Have a good day folks, back to the grindstone for me.

Maybe, but I thought I'd ask on here first if anyone wants them - I'm one of those for whom ebay doesn't do too well.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Ctc, been thinking about your place overnight.

Interesting re the render issue. Most places did used to be painted (i once saw a reconstruction of a painted cathedral or castle). I remember first learning that delightful old red brick 'should' be at least lime washed, and that there is a special sort of pointing used for under paint so that it looks like the building is made of bigger, more regular , more expensive pieces of rock, than small lumpy rock, or bricks (my house is brick).

Our place is rendered at the back, and while in an ideal world we would take that off our opinion is that someopne rendered it for a reason, in a place where so little work was done to maintain that render was put on and painted. It gets crazed cracks, so repainting is going to be a regular maintaining issue to help support that side against damp and was on our list for this summer but the weather was too miserable so next summer seems likely!

So, even though we know there is a degree of issue with our rendered side our house is blessedly low on damp, especially when you consider how cold we have kept it inside for two years. rest assured the right remedy for the place does seem to work!

    Hi all,

Been grateful to finally get a diagnosis as I have been a bit useless. And have now at last a course of treatment - so hopefully that'll be successful.

Amazing how weak you can get really quickly. I ttttotttered down to the hens as I hadn't seen them for what seems like ages & noticed one of the young 'uns has a swollen face on one side & is a bit purpley - sting? Bite? he seems well apart from a lob sided leer.

OH just back from posting last of stuff to go out & seems a shop 12 miles away was broken into last night - really nasty hail storms & torrential showers & gusts. No one would have been abroad in that. 'm rather ashamed to admit it's slightly thrilling to think we are near a crime wave - nowt like that ever happens here!

The 'paper' lorry came off the road just down from here due to the hail making the road slippy.

Choille, hope you're on the mend soon.

Bit of nostalgia for you all , when cottages were £45, a greenhouse £10.50 and irish cottagers were hand sewing tablecloths/embroidery

    When they're gone, they're gone

Rhiwfield - may the back get quickly sorted. How painful & frustrating for you. I'm so pleased you're enjoying the research into your items - It's very addictive & a continuous learning curve.

Dave - wonderous toms. Like a wee factory in them there tunnel.
The Comfrey juicer is excellent. I've had 4 harvests this year. I chuck it - whole plants - between the tattie dreels after planting the spuds. The brew in the old dustbin stinks like we have folded a corpse in there. I had bottled some & had it in the shed the t'other year when we had those record low temps of -240C. Some of the old wine bottles froze & burst & when it heated up a little it was pretty unbearable in there - like Hannibal Lecter's wee shed so it was.
Marvellous looking hens. I must take some pics & re ignite the blog as the light is fabulous just now - all light & shade & stunning rainbows.

Alfie - Hope your recovered from all your gadding about. I read about that awful coach crash for the festival returnees & thought of your son.

CTC - Too gorgeous - what delights. I may get some. I do like the wild boar crosses they have around here.

LIR - You're moving on with all your renovations at a cracking speed. Well done you.

To all dreamers - keep the faith.
