No, grass copes fine. Just the buttercups, or other acid loving things.

I can't afford to buy so am looking to rent. I've done the following:

    Obvious things like Zoopla, Rightmove.
Estate agents / Letting agents who don't use the above
Local papers - both looking for ads and advertising in them
Newsagents/ village shop windows both looking and advertising in them
    Word of mouth
National Trust/other stately homes and similar big houses in the areas I want.

Can anyone think of any other methods of finding somewhere to live out the dream? What have I missed? Ideally I'd want a farm cottage or similar but in my areas so many are holiday cottages now.

I have quite a large geographical area to cover, so may be missing some things, and I can't get round all the village shop windows every week. There used to be a great little newsheet called 'In the sticks' which had mostly property to sell but also some rentals. It was great but sadly no more.

Anyone any creative ideas they can suggest? Moving house was my project for this year but somehow life got in the way. Must try harder.

    Thanks for any thoughts

    Liz

Large private estates, farms with cottages. (might be let via the local country estate agent who also holds farm content /machinery sales).

There are a few websites with rentals but i am afraid i no longer have the links. Some look a bit....amateurish.

    Welcome Mennie/Eliza.

Mennie, growing fruit/veg in containers can be more than a stop gap, especially if you use a handy trellis or mesh for plants to grow up. For those living in the sunny south a grape vine growing over a pergola is great fun, blueberries in tubs, potatoes in buckets, cucumbers growing up mesh attached to a fence, trained fruit trees using narrow beds. Its amazing how productive even a small garden can be, especially if you can use vertical spaces.

Eliza, not sure I can help other than to suggest narrowing your geographical search area, more rifle shot than shotgun approach.

Well, 5 cubic metres of wood stacked, ably assisted by daughter, son and granddaughters, so the two woodsheds and back wall of garage now just about full, especially as we had about half a cubic metre left from last year. GDs were a great help!

Snacks and cream cakes were devoured and, as a treat, we get to mind the GDs tomorrow as well :D Time for granddads scones! Gds surprised one of the chooks mid egg lay, shame I didnt have the camera ready :)

Had an alfie day today (that's one where loads of different things are done in rapid succession! ;))...and it feels like it!!!

Anyway, we now have a new secondhand double oven, thanks to the Bay, and we also have a virtually new, expensive-looking Neff hob, which we don't want, but which the woman insisted on giving us, because she's moving in a few days.

So, real meals again shortly, and it looks like I have my first item to list. Just as well, as I haven't gained much feedback, with most of my recent purchases happening outside of the official channel! :o:o:o
