Lir, we have that Phygelius in your last picture, growing near the end of our bungalow. I've taken a few Irishman's cuttings, just in case, but it seems to survive everything. It's a good value, evergreenish thing.
My pure comfrey barrel has produced its first crop of not-too-bad smelling, dark brown liquid. This is the one to which I've not added any water, so we keep it under cover. The one outside, which is a water/comfrey mix, really pongs, but it was quicker to set up.
Today, we managed to put the pure comfrey barrel on a pedestal, and then I drilled a hole near the bottom and caught several litres of the brown stuff. When it stopped, I topped it up with fresh leaves, put the weights on again and more steady dripping continued, so it looks like I shall have an automatic replenishment system going now.
Did I say that I think the Dr Carolyn tomatoes aren't all they're cracked-up to be? Well, they're not, anyway. The Ukraine Purple aren't purple either, but they're good to cook. Still waiting for the first red pepper, though we could have green ones now.
Assuming we only have one hen from our three babies, we're looking for a couple of 7 week old hens to keep her company. It's like trying to find...err...chicken's teeth! Plenty of POLs but none around the same age as ours. However, might have tracked down a chicken nutter with a few interesting ones on the Cornish border ....;)0 -

Yes!;)
(we are talking about the Phygelius, I presume?)
I wouldn't mind a hedge of it somewhere, but I think it might succumb to a winter like 09/10 in the open.0 -

The Ukraine Purple, as you've found out by the sound of it, you have to pick before they go purple, a sort of off colour green. I found them so difficult to get the picking time right, I stopped growing them.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
