One pile but a igger coming? No chance of him carting the bulk to two more piles leaving you to tidyup before burning.

    It does burn high.

    Good idea!:)

....But that may not happen until later. I've a feeling that the visit on Thursday won't last long, hence the word "exploratory."

As you can see i am going through that phase again of not being able to sleep:o:rotfl:

Rummer....The chickens - ducks and geese hate me at the mo:D as I am making sure EVERYTHING is used up, even if it is a wired combination on the plate....:D:rotfl:

Had to throw out most of the contents of one of my freezers ( half and half upright) I had filled it soooooooooooooooo full the cold air wasnt circulating, so things were defrosting etc...

The co-op by us has been having great reductions for months now... so i have basically been having a field day... I have a chest freezer, but i set that up in work;)

Like tonight i bought 4 blocks of cheese reduced from £3 odd down to 75p... So hubby will be having alot of cheese and tomato sandwiches, cheesey beans on toast etc:p

Davesnave....once the X factor starts you know its the count down to Christmas:eek: its def going to be a tightwad chrimbo in the CTC's household this year.

    morning.............

    quick question .........again !

yesterday early evening i was enveloped in a cloud of ??? from neighbouring rally driver farmer with HUGE contraption spreading something at 90mph [not kidding !] i "cycled" to the gateway and asked what it was they were doing and young lad said "spreading LIME" .........our vehicles were covered and so are my windows etc.

IS THIS A BIT DODGY ? im concerned for my bees who were still active at the time. we had to wash the vehicles, it was like snow drifts...im sure the speed he was going was a major factor as most seem to be wizzing up in the air and over the fence line... it was like a fog descended !! can this harm anything ie, animogs/plants etc ?

I cannot wait to lime here....but have to until my neighbour limes, he is going to buy enough to do my fields too and do em all. Probably be a few years.

Its messy, and should be done on a still day, but i have never heard of it harming anything, apart from BUTTERCUPS. Which is why i want it. I am certain it does have other drawbacks that i simply camnot recLl, but hey, what doesn't?
I would not want to breathe it in mind you, you should have been wrned so you couldkeep washing in etc.

Liming is better than many complex chemical controls and i have always used it. It is acceptBle in organic farming.

    Hey.

I am have managed to read the first 90 pages of the original thread and realised I am never going to catch up, so I try
and catch up on the new thread.

I am desperate to have a small holding. At the mo there is me 32 and hubby 36 and terrier in a three bedroom suburban semi. We have a 9ft square veg plot in which we grow herbs, tatties and this year spring onions.

We are about the adopt and the dream is a cottage in the country with some land for chicks, ducks and geese, an orchard and mahoosive veg patch. I would love a wildlife garden too.

We cannot possibly afford this yet so we are concentrating on getting rid of the mortgage (£66.5K) We know we will be staying here for the next 6 years, so the plan is to put our name down for an allotment and learn all the old style skills we can. I made my own dog biscuits this morning!!!! Oh and save really hard!!!

I have ordered a polythene greenhouse so next year Vwe can grown peppers and tomatoes.

We will also make use of troughs and pots on the patio to grow more. Will even be growing in old wellies.

Thanks for reading, any words of wisdom are always appreciated!!!

Welcome mennie, dreams come in all shapes and sizes, and tbh, the allotment and or back garden size ones are better tended and as productive or more often enough.

I think i have finished doing the pears, but not sure.bit worries i should be chopping more off, but there doesn't seem anything to chop off?? I shpuld not cut my leaders, right?

Yep, the idea is that buttercups like it acidic, and lime is, well, alkaline, so, take that buttercups!

Hello and welcome Mennie, always lovely to see a new face on here. It sounds as if you have everything planned out. I just have a garden as do some of the others on here, not everyone has a small holding. Don't worry about catching up on the threads as I ask the same questions each season :o

We have divided our garden into different areas including a veg/fruit bit, pond, flowers and a wildlife area. Even in a small garden you can pack a lot of things in ;)

    Great news on the adoption!

LIR - Will it kill grass or just the buttercups?
