I found with the bootsales, it was when the kids went back to school that things picked up a bit, ready for christmas:D
Got someone to fence our first pig paddock, they are start doing it on tuesday :T I know it might look like a cop out from doing the fencing;) but we havent got the time, plus the right equipment to knock those strengthener posts in properly...
We have decided we are def going to save and have a look around for a midi digger to buy...We would def get our money's worth out of it... with the work that needs doing...
Now would you call this 'cheeky':D or just trying to 'drum up' some business interest a good idea? I was thinking of surfing the old internet for vintage sellers, shops etc, and emailing them a link to my ebay listings of the bulk buy vintage stuff, what do you think? As I am hoping to find repeat buyers/bidders...
LIR hope you injoyed your cuppa and biscwit... which is a good idea.... so i am going to have a well deserved cuppa and a jamme dodger biscwit:p
Make sure they use proper pig fencing, CTC. Pigs can make mincemeat of ordinary fencing wire.0 -
Makes sense to have someone fence for you. Fences forbig creatures need to be strong. If they look professional it might even be a security betterment imo. At the very least, gives the neighbours something to ponder.0

We have the stock fencing, barb wire, and poles ready, got the stock fencing a while back in the montly farm auction..
so basically they are doing the grafting and bringing one of hteir machines to knock the posts in etc...
we have seen a old tractor with attachments on fleabay.... which is cheaper than a midi digger, and could do more things in the future..

Its such a kind gift of something that means something to her and i need to put it in something. I thought an old cauldron would be suitably big and not too shiny for my house. I net they are expensive, right?
is a big copper or brass old pot any good, saw some today in a pile of "junk" i was allowed to sift through ??? can go back if suitable...0 -

OK. Be careful if you are thinking of breeding, though. Little piglets can get through the gaps of normal sheep wire.
If you've never kept pigs trying to catch piglets in an open area can be an adventure
It really does depend on what work need doing & whether you think buying a machine will be worth it in the long run.
We always hired because different machines are better for different jobs. Sometimes a mini-digger would be fine but, at other times, it wouldn't be up to the work or would take much, much longer than a larger one. If something was wrong with the diggers, dumpers etc. the maintenance was down to the plant hire company.
If you time the hire properly you usually end up with free days as they have to be available to collect it :cool:0 -
