LIR..... i always thought your yards looked neat and clean anyway !!
Ah, thats kind of you to say. We sweep all the time in the far yard the horses are always in, but still, it gets mucky. Hosing down is more of a once a year thing though!
Still finding lots of grit from winter too...:o
I am also trying to get the place ready to paint, think i have chosen a green paint, (want a yellow wall somewhere too). Because if the rain ever stops that is my plan, i will need lots to do outside this summer to keep out of builders way, and i want the yard to look more professional, as i really will have to think about advertising soon, need the income.0 -
And am I the only party pooper to breathe a sigh of relief that the wall to wall jubilee coverage is over?
Yes, it was wall-to-wall ...........but at least it got us away from the misery of politics, Leveson Enquiry, Euro Crisis & the usual dumbed-down, doom & gloom of everyday British TV.
The BBC coverage was poor, particularly the River Pageant which has been completely savaged by many.
All done now ...... Olympics next - & we thought the Jubilee was long :rotfl:
Tomorrow & Friday look grim weatherwise.
I looked online & the forecast for hereabouts says 14th is completely sunny :j but that's the only day in June that is!
(Thinks ..... I'll be doing my 'explorer with machete through the jungle' bit on 14th then:rotfl:0 -
HIYA FOLKS..
i have seen to my old lady this morning...wants to sew more cushions for me ! already made 3 patchwork bed quilts for me......
this afternoon i went to work on the "railway" [miniature] . my track job today was to clear overhanging branches...:D
i pruned/trimmed all the bonsai tree's and the mini fir hedges along the tracks. i must get a picture of it all so you will get an idea of what im on about !! :rotfl: i gave up when the rain came.... but then it only lasted 20 mins but i was on my way home...:o
checked on dora and flo in the stable...flo wants to know why SHE is in !:rotfl: dora is better but farrier tomorow so will see what his verdict on her feet are before she goes out again. everyone is complaing a lack of grazing [acreage wise] but we have too much !! 3 fields are going for hay this year leaving us 3 to "play" with. big, medium and small .... have to get ruby ,sheep and other minis in one field before dora and flo can follow. impossible to try and ration them otherwise
i must admit i AM a bit tender from my "red arrow" display the other day ! i have a slow bruise coming out on my butt/hip...:(
keep having hot baths to ease it ...:D0 -
Weekend spent cleaning yard, followed by bibilucal downpour this evening equals disgorged guttering.....moss and dirt all over my pristine yard.
( we did them last at the end of last summer, not been a spell dry enough this sping, but we get preposterous amounts of moss in our gutters, and miles f gutters to clear out....so thats a huge job too.0 -
On the plus side, jojo's chicks are climbing thecramp into the house at night.....no more kneeling in wet grass and chicken poop each night. They are very forward this lot.0

Bit of a bummer that, alfie
No, seriously, I hope it's better soon.lostinrates wrote: »Weekend spent cleaning yard, followed by bibilucal downpour this evening equals disgorged guttering.....moss and dirt all over my pristine yard.

Moss *groan*. Luckily we don't get too much on the rooves or in the guttering. It tends to be that golden lichen on our rooves.
We do get moss almost everywhere else - driveways, cobbles, cement floors of open-fronted sheds etc. Wooden gates & barn doors will turn green if left unattended.
I've found that blasting everything with the pressure-washer is the most long-lasting way of dealing with it. "Take that, you swine"
We used to get loads of leaves from the guttering going down the downpipes which weren't the easiest things to clear so we have little chicken wire bungs in the top of the pipes now. We still, obviously, have to clear all the guttering once a year but the bungs (& having a few less trees near the house!) has solved most of the problems.
We always know when it's 'check the gutters time' from the veils of water (like mini waterfalls) that suddenly start to act as external curtains to the windows if there's a downpour :rotfl:0 -
We get the golden lichen on one of our rooves ( when i go up the big hill its part of how i id our place) the others are all moss.0

You can get rid of moss on roofs by spraying with Iron Sulphate solution, or a bit cruder, chucking handfuls of lawn moss killer up there. Also, Moss doesn't like copper. A few copper. wires arranged appropriately on your roof so that rain washes the copper.down will kill the moss**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts.
