to all you having "costing" problems ...i so wish it was builders from here...the costs you are quoting seem horrendous. my friend who "restores" old places [by restore, she doubles the size and guts them..;) ] has done a BIG house for less than rozee has been told ??? her builders work on a day rate and she never gets an all over price. she tells em what fittings, either she orders them in or they do but she is in control and pays the invoices for materials. i think this is where some builders use "artistic licence" and gain ££££s.
Yes. We always got the 'main' builder to give us a quote & then paid their daily rate each Friday.
We did the vast majority of the ordering (having our own accounts with the suppliers) so could negotiate the best rate we could & not have the middle man put their 'cut' on top.
It does mean that you, initially, have to learn a lot of new things fairly quickly & make decisions on the go but, if you keep on top of what's happening, you keep costs down in many places - apart from 'the unexpected' .......... which one can always expect....... but never know what it will actually be.:D
Happy Birthday, rhow :beer:0
