Because all my chooks lay different eggs, I've noticed that one of the hybrids hasn't laid for maybe 5 days.
She's been laying for a few weeks now.
She looks all right, I haven't caught her yet as she's the difficult one to catch and it would cause maybe unnecessary stress.
Am I worrying about nothing?
Maybe, maybe not. I still feel guilty that I didnt realize one of mine was eggbound, she died from complications. Better safe than sorry0 -
I've just been watching her, there's nothing wrong at all. Eggbound hens usually show symptoms don't they?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

Yes, lethargy & a messy rear are frequently symptoms. Droopiness, distress.
If the temperatures have dropped with you in the last few days & there has been less daylight (lousy rainy dark days) then she could just have got out of sync. How old is she?
If she seems normal but just isn't laying then I wouldn't worry too much, Lotus. If she is acting strangely is the time to work out what could be wrong.0 -

:) A grockle box or a static, oldtractor?
We've shot round today trying to catch up with everything that's grown in the past couple of weeks since we last managed to really get outside.
Mowing (about a third done - rather like attacking the rainforest), strimming, clearing weed from the ponds, pulling little saplings & ruddy eyebright - I had strong words with Him Upstairs & explained that there are things called opticians nowadays & I really don't need tons of eyebright- from just under an acre of gravel.
The pineapple mint is growing ....... slowly ........ it's about 2" tall but is there. The Spanish is forming a lovely bushy plant already but the ordinary looks about the same as the pineapple.
The various thymes, marjoram, oregano, rosemary, bay & santolina all survived & look good but the purple sage looks distinctly sorry for itself although it's hanging on in there.
All shrubs OK
The one joy of living on a hillside is most of the water disappears relatively quickly but rain is due back tonight & the temperatures here are meant to be low at the weekend again
Still waiting for the May to come out before tackling any major outdoor seed planting.0 -
answers on a post card please !! or on here really...
i had the most hugest, gigantimust swarm of these critters on the side of my house this afternoon ... and then [somehow ??] there was about a dozen indoors on the windowsill the otherside of the swarm.[they were going mental outdoors but these ones are really dozy..almost asleep ?] i dont know how theyve got indoors but i have so many gaps.... because the 1st floor external walls are tile clad they can get under them and possibly via under floorboards can reach the lounge but that would give bear gryls a run for his money...
Q1....CAN THEY BE HARMFULL EN FORCE ??0 -
Isn't that a honey bee?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

How big are they, alfie? Could they be hornets? Although they usually come out later in the evening, I think.
They can nest in rooves & buildings ...... like wasps
This page may help you decide what they are

Yep, looks like a honey bee.
Lucky you alfie.
If you know any bee keepers they will come and get them for you for free and i am sure you can sweet talk them into some honey in return.0 -
