They are now coming on in leaps and bounds, and flip they cant half eat....
You can see where they have lost their down on their hind quarters.
are you sure its not the new feather shafts showing rather than "pecked".. they do look a bit spikey at this stage....0 -
could be Alfie, the best way to discribe it, is that they are bald with new feathers growing through... but only on their back quarter.....Work to live= not live to work0

He seemed to treat me as a tax evader rather than someone who was enquiring about my potential tax laibility. The second person was much more helpful.
On the council tax thing, I'm amazed that they can refuse to divulge the criteria by which your property may or may not be liable. I'm a lawyer... Local Government can surely not be so arbitrary!
It's more than a little frustrating, rozee, but they know that they have you by the short & .......
Between the Valuation Office & Planning (we had to pay for Planning Permission for plants - I made the mistake of asking what they thought we should plant) I can tell you that Local Government is a law unto itself & none of it comes under the heading of Fair or Sensible. :mad:COOLTRIKERCHICK wrote: »Now i know this might seem a bit ott, but is the house in one or joint names?
If it is in one name, could you then put it in your oh name? aS IN THEORY:D It has a new owner...... which then might get you another year's free council tax, or isnt it as simple as that? if it is, then you have only got the cost of change the deeds over, which i am sure would be far less than the council tax....
Something in the back of my memory is telling me that it's the length of time the building is empty regardless of owner ....... but that, thankfully, is one issue I haven't had to deal with so I'm not sure of that.Love the little gogs
Sorry you've been ill, LIR. Hope you're feeling better now.0 -

Splash out on a false egg or two, LIR. They'll always come in handy.
Sounds like it may be just the change from down to feather, CTC, as alfie said.
Pretty little chicks quickly become ugly little weirdies before they blossom into the adult bird. Depending on the breed of bird they never get the pretty bit back :rotfl:0 -
I can't really add to what's been said about CT, but I can see what the law ought to be discouraging. Round here,(and I may have said this before) we have a farming family that won't let out any of its 'spare' houses, with the result that one has crumbled already and another looks dodgy. These are properties that could be housing locals.
Managed to avoid a mini catastrophe with the shed roof by trapping the flapping felt on it with house bricks and then, when we had a 2 hour window of calm & dry, re-fixing it and battening it too.Just finished and the heavens opened again. It's in for the night now.
Good to hear you are over the bug, lir. Wonder how lotus eater is getting on with his hens?0 -

To be fair they may not even be able to afford to do so, Dave.
I know, if we hadn't decommissioned, we'd have been paying just short of £7,000 CT & that was 7-8 years ago. As it is we still pay more than double a Band H in Mayfair costs
Guess what the rates were when we first moved here .......... just under £100pa0 -

did you know that you can be fined if you let a house get into such a bad state when empty ?? councils can even compulsary purchase if thier demands for restoration are not met ??;) also interesting how they get on for CT ??
also that if a house "falls" down totally you can get fined for not having PP to "demolish"0 -

Maybe your position and theirs shouldn't be compared. We aren't talking holiday cottages here, and money probably isn't the issue, but I can understand that not everyone wants to be a landlord.
My friend lives semi detached to one. Not a situation I'd want to be in.0 -

Maybe I'll try that & let them complusory purchase some of mine, alfie
They won't let them be used for local housing because they want the Planning kept for holidaymakers. So, at present they're sitting doing nothing. To restart the business would mean DH working full-time again (& it is full-time as you're on call 24/7) &, being in his mid-70s, that's not what he wants to do even if he's, thankfully, relatively fit for his age.0
