:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: jojo has done a switch job behind your back LIR....
ive driven to heathrow this morning and drove through a wall of rain and wallies !! lots of unmarked cop cars pulling people over and i was delighted to see an alfa R. being pulled after it overtook at what seemed 80mph and cut me up by weaving in and out ...:D couldnt even see the lights of cars more than 30ft away let alone a wally coming from nowhere.... sorry but thats my achilles heel ...:D
re finding a cottage. look up any "country estates." also check out for "for sale/ recently sold" estates/big houses that in the estate agent blurb says "plus stable cottages"... they often are happy to have some one "on site" whilst alterations/builders are in but THEY arent... also drive up to big estates, knock the door and ASK.....:D they wont advertise....;)
well son is coming round and we are having an unhealthymeal of egg, chips, bacon etc....:D
ive had a disturbing letter to which i rang the number to be told that "apparently" i owe dosh from 10 years ago ???? why is it when you question the sanity of this statement they just ask you to pay .....when asked for paperwork? details? they seem shocked that you would want this... as he told me the conversation was being taped i asked for a copy and was told i couldnt unless i pay.... stuff that for a con.....
dont need cr*p like that today.....0 -
I usually ask cold callers like that for their details so I can report them to the authorities.
Strange, but they usually hang up on me after that0 -
Well, we now have sliding doors on both ends of the polytunnel, but there's still a large job to do on the thresholds before I can say it's finished....and by 'large' I mean two railway sleeper sized chunks of wood, concreted-in.
It's been much colder than I expected today. Twice, I've gone out and returned after a couple of hours, frozen, shivering and surprised. It's so odd after working in a T shirt for weeks!
Eliza, I agree totally with what CTC says about farmers & rentals. We have a family near here who have let houses crumble rather than rent them out.:( To be blunt, I also think that you are making things harder by wanting a National Park location. The sort of place you're after happens in the less well-policed places, if it still happens at all.
Lir, at least you got your mis-sexed bird the right way round. Our two Rhodie cockerels cost us in petrol returning them and they ate very well while they were here too!:rotfl:0 -
Thank you. I'm looking in the Peak Park and surrounding patch - quite a large area really. I already live in the southern peaks and wish to move further north but am open to ideas really, pretty flexible. I had a farm cottage lined up but unfortunately it fell through due to planning problems with its conversion. I also have the feelers out a bit in the farming community but as I say, don't want word getting back to my present landlord till I'm ready. A tad tricky!
Thanks again. Will keep on the case.
Just about anything in a National Park is going to attract a lot of attention from neighbours if you move in.
You might find someone who is prepared to let you have a small annexe/servants quarters outside the Park. Certainly, on other forums there have been a number of people living in such properties where the utilities and Council Tax have not been independant.
The difficulty comes if the Council Tax people find out they will chase you because the property should have been independently assessed and you will get hit by a big bill. Do not even dream of joining the electoral roll at the address.
The other little problem is the LL being mean with the utilities (one guy realised his coin meter was running the outside floodlights all night, another had the power turned off intermittently) or expecting you to do chores in exchange - like just feed the horses or take in the parcels or or .
You might check out the term property guardian - there are occasional rural properties available. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

I've been told by an ageing local that we're not allowed to burn things. He said that the plane that flew overhead was on the look out for such things.
Countryside rules are beyond me! Where do I find out whether I'm allowed to do stuff on the land?0 -

They may just be fishing (not unknown for DCAs to send every person with the same surname and first initial a letter hoping to get the one owing the money to respond) or it might be something stupid like a DD that kept being taken out of a closed account.
And frankly, DCAs are happy to take the money from anyone who will cough up (the elderly and confused included).
Even if it is your debt, the Statute of Limitations probably apply but until you tell them that you are not going to pay, they are legally entitled to ask you for the money.
Do nothing until they send paperwork, then come over to debt free wannabee.
If they ring you, tell them you are recording their call. They will ring off.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

It's over 2 decades since I've done any form of contract law but if my memory is correct it's the Limitation Act 1980
The relevant sections seem to be 5 and 6
Actions founded on simple contract
5 Time limit for actions founded on simple contract.
An action founded on simple contract shall not be brought after the expiration of six years from the date on which the cause of action accrued.
Annotations: Help about AnnotationModifications etc. (not altering text)C7S. 5 extended (11.11.1999 with effect as mentioned in s. 10(2)(3) of the amending Act) by 1999 c. 31, ss. 7(3), 10(2)(3)
6 Special time limit for actions in respect of certain loans.
(1)Subject to subsection (3) below, section 5 of this Act shall not bar the right of action on a contract of loan to which this section applies.
(2)This section applies to any contract of loan which—
(a)does not provide for repayment of the debt on or before a fixed or determinable date; and
(b)does not effectively (whether or not it purports to do so) make the obligation to repay the debt conditional on a demand for repayment made by or on behalf of the creditor or on any other matter;
except where in connection with taking the loan the debtor enters into any collateral obligation to pay the amount of the debt or any part of it (as, for example, by delivering a promissory note as security for the debt) on terms which would exclude the application of this section to the contract of loan if they applied directly to repayment of the debt.
(3)Where a demand in writing for repayment of the debt under a contract of loan to which this section applies is made by or on behalf of the creditor (or, where there are joint creditors, by or on behalf of any one of them) section 5 of this Act shall thereupon apply as if the cause of action to recover the debt had accrued on the date on which the demand was made.
(4)In this section “promissory note” has the same meaning as in the M1Bills of Exchange Act 1882.
As you can see, like most lawyerly things, it is written in good old Plain English (not!)0
