Listening to the new this evening, and they were saying we have had over 500 grass fires in the last few days, and 90% of then were started deliberately:eek:
Roozee are you going to ffairfach auction on saturday?
I havent been for about 18 months... going this saturday:jbut i will be looking now through new eyes so to speak:D..
there is 5 auctioneers going all at the same time for most of the day..
there is a poultry building, the general household auctions, the outside autcions with plants farm implements, cars, feeders, wood, basically anything:rotfl:plus the carbooters..
Alot of people just go for a day out, they dont buy anything:rotfl:
We have said we are not going to buy any chickens though;):D

I'd love to go to that auction!!! Great tip. But I think oh will need to supervise the final bits of the static being installed and I couldn't go alone with the kids. Well, I could. But I'd have to be insane

Yes, and no.I think it might be handy, but we are not going to have any long term need for one, as I won't be tilling vast areas of spuds etc and it wouldn't be very good for 4' raised beds.
OTOH it would probably cut the orchards, but then a wheeled brushcutter would do that too. So, probably overkill.0 -
The architect chap was here today, and confirmed that we could do an upstairs within budget.
He'd put on paper what I'd had vaguely swimming in my head, but the limitations I'd hit on were still there too, unfortunately.
I think we might do a bit of tweaking yet, though.;)
In particular, I want a separate building (garage?) where all the utility stuff goes, and the pumps etc for the heating. It's obvious to me that smallholdings need a real buffer zone, even if it's only a metre from the house proper.....He & DW don't really buy that. I think they have an idealised view of what life in the country, and people's behaviour, is like. Look at our "conservatory" ....it's full of carp! :rotfl:
Anyway, it looks like we will get our views.0 -
Looks as though its good news then Davesnave..by having the upstairs with the views, i;m sure would add more value to the place....
Rozee the auction is on the last saturday of every month....well worth a look at some point... but buyer beware, once the auctioneer says sold, you have bought it.... so inspect well before bidding, a few poeple have been caught out like that.
Is it me, but it seems like ages that choille has posted? choille hope everything is ok, and you are just too busy to post..:beer:Work to live= not live to work0 -
I'm gutted as we were expecting to have the costing this week and I attempted to chase up the QS with no joy. Spoke to the architect late yesterday afternoon and the QS has gone into hospital for a quadruple bypass! The architect "thought" he'd written, but we never received the letter - they don't seem to use the phone or email round here...
So we're 3 weeks on and no progress. We're now thinking submit planning permission now, whilst we sort out the costing, but being the kind of cautious person (with money) I'd like to know we can afford it first, although the architect believes it's possible within our budget, so perhaps I've been too cautious
Good news about your upstairs, Dave. We've been very impressed by our architect's idea to pull a little portion of one of the external walls back to create somewhere for the stairs to be housed so that we don't lose a big area within the footprint to form a stairwell.
We'll definately be at that auction at some stage, CTC. We may just go to the little local one at Synod Inn tomorrow. We are still in the market for a trailerm but may just buy new as some of the secondhand ones have been very secondhand :rotfl:0 -

rozee, that made me giggle! Its with a big shock i have realised we rapidly approach our two year move anniversary and only just dipping toes into the reno stage:D. Three weeks, is, in this sort of thing i guess no sort of delay, especially on a rural timetable.
Still, had you bought some eggs and a cooker, you would be getting excited in that sort of time frame, and getting ready for babies now.
Its a very different morning this morning, hazy mists, not clear sky and sun.0 -

You should have a job on a newspaper, especially for doing the headlines...lol...
Really cant wait to make my first cup of tea in the house...Rhiwfield... will you be one of our first official visitors?
/QUOTE]
Its great to think that headlines like "Biker Babe Asda Blues" may be spiked from now on (you can see just why I never went into journaliam!)
Milk, no sugar for me, please.0 -
A few weeks ago, I took a photo showing what part of our front view would be like if we achieved an upstairs:
It wouldn't quite be exactly like that, as there'd be 60' of garden & the road first, but you get the idea. Of course, we can see quite a bit of this now, but not the valley floor, and it's frustrating only having the distant view.
It's not like that this morning, but I can just see the other side of the valley now. Those non-coniferous trees in the valley are ancient woodlands; what's left of the temperate rain forest in this area. I only found out recently how important they are.0
