LIR...thats very strange that theres no feathers.... how did it get the body out of your shed ?? shes not gone up a milking pipe has she, in shock !!:o so sad...

T-shirt weather here today :j
I spent the day digging over the back bed and it is almost cleared of all the creepy buttercups and spiky things
Now I am drowning in seeds . I think the compost I used for my failed seedlings may have been past it's prime so I am going to get some seed compost tomorrow (or is that a huge waste of money?) and get some feed for the garden, what is the best thing to put down now?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Oh dear, I've just seen lir's news.
That's an awful thing to wake up to. It also answers a question I was going to ask about the containment and housing of geese, because they were another option for the orchard. I don't think I'll risk it now, with that part being so far from the house.
Strangely, we noticed something had been digging at the hens' perimeter fence yesterday, but whatever it was had given up quite quickly. We checked it this morning and there was no fresh digging.
Commiserations lir. Hope you and alfie find your missing birds. Others have turned up after 24 hrs or so.
Most of today has been spent in the van, so I'm too tired to say much now, but will attempt the questions tomorrow.0 -
As alfie said, the lack of feathers is strange for a fox attack.
When they get in a henhouse it usually looks like a mad pillow fight has taken place in there
Did you have your pekin last year, alfie? She's not one of the ones who loves to lay away, is she?0 -
The trouble with going to bed at 9pm is that waking up can occur far too early.....and the clocks have done silly things too: well, the automatic ones have!
Yes, CTC, I think that Mr Kay must be one of those who 'retired' from the old company. I never used them though, as the old thread said. We didn't use seed trays or multi-cell thingies in the old business, but we have lots of 9cm square pots, so if they'd be any use, I'd be happy send some .....just let me know.
As for PP on polytunnels, I understand that anything wider than 14' counts as commercial. It's a bit vague, as you'd think length would be in there somewhere too, but height is governed by width, of course. Ours is well over 10' high. It cost about £70 to get PP here, but with a pair of NIMBYs down in the barn conversions who poke their nose into anything like that, PP was the only route for us. Careful siting means they can barely see it anyway.
Thanks for the info on the mower, lucielle. I'm sure it would do the job brilliantly, but that's as much as I expect to spend on our next car! Seriously, I know I should look out for second hand stuff, and I will.
Anyone have any preference between those hollow tube post bashers and cast iron post mauls? I can't make up my mind. The post basher we inherited here was so heavy, we wondered who the hell could have used it! Anyway, I gave it to Pete for scrap.
Congratulations on the Halifax pay off alfie. Looking at the other Halifax, I'm glad I sold my shares in 2006! :rotfl:0 -
Davesnave, i bet you are like wee-willy-winky around the place...lol.... my exscue is we have a vintage fair in bristol today..... in one way i am sorry that i booked to do it last minute now, as i REALLY could have done with another day in the garden.... even if it was just pottering around... and soaking up the sun and the nothingness IYKWIM:rotfl:
I would have thought that pp would have been governed by length too?
I thought it was the same Mr Kay...
Thanks for the offer of the pots... might take you up on them in the future... but i will pay you for them, how many have you got?
Afriend of ours put a 12 x 8 greenhouse on facebook last night, for £80 or a swap for a smaller one, so we have asked him to keep it for us... not going to do the swap, as our greenhouse can stay here, and the new one can go to the new place...Its got the thick plastic rather than glass, this is what we renewed our glass with in our greenhouse... alot cheaper and easier to get hold off..
Better get my nice warm clothes out of the dryer and toddle off,
hope you all have a nice day in the gardenWork to live= not live to work0 -
Hope you do well at the fair CTC.
