My car is still stuck in the Kyle of Lochalsh, hoping its going to be ready this week. They think it was the bearing in the water pump that snapped the timing belt, that broke the valves, that knackered the cylinder head. A big job then. L
If it was mine, I'd have left it there! :rotfl:
My Audi did more or less the same thing, but luckily, just over a mile from home. I recall DW conducting a kind of telephone auction for it between a few dealer types...... It made a lot more than I expected.
I now drive something sensible, also due for renewal, any day now.:eek:0 -
We did think about it and I tried to buy the hire car I've got as will do for DS1 who's 17 (how did that happen?) at the end of March. However I still need a 7 seater and after spending just over £400 on the braking system and 2 new tyres we've gone ahead with it. I thinkt he AA are going to put in £465 as I pay a bit extra each month to cover major repairs.

Top two are Arum italicum or similar.
Third one is an arum too. 'Lords & Ladies'?
Fourth one is Lamium. Not sure which one, but probably the one that's latin mame starts with 'glob...' -something!
Last one is Comfrey, but a small creeping one.... Symphytum grandiflorum???
The arums are all poisonous, but so long as your kids know this when they are old enough to be unsupervised, it won't matter.

I think the very fact that people have so much time for each other & are so friendly means that you also get the reverse side of the coin where everyone wants to know all your business &, regardless of what may or may not be correct, will gossip about it endlessly.
The things I've heard about other people would make their hair fall out! Mind, you, most of it turns out to be completely untrue so I don't pass anything on but still get to hear it. :rotfl:0 -
Talking of rural crime.....
You know that new police site where you can look up your local crime figures...... We're not even on it! Told you we were small :rotfl:
Rozee - If it's ramsoms (wild garlic) you'll know it. You won't need to take any photos. You'll smell it.
I forgot the weather report. It's mostly blue sky with some cloud, sunny &, presumably, warmish - well, it looks it out of the window0 -

Think this link gives a summary. The blowsy spanish bluebells hybridise with the native species so its best keeping them out of gardens close to native bluebell woods and hedgebanks.
Itsme, dead right re ramsons! Rozee, well worthwhile to invest in a wildflower guide if you havent got one already, I mostly use Blamey, Fitter & Fitter.
Going to have fun on Tuesday week taking a carful of stuff to auction and buying fresh stock on Wednesday. Have one item going into a March fine sale and on Monday we're making up lots for a general sale.
Ebay's hard work atm, shedloads of watchers but they're mostly keeping their hands off the bid button!0 -

Or us, but the village is. December is all zeros.
I'll check again but the last few times I looked the entire parish was missing.
The two options that came up offered a TA postcode - nope, completely the wrong county, or in Barney Rubble itself - no, many miles way & an altogether different sort of place.0 -

I've been back on the police site & we do now exist
It makes rather boring reading, though. No recorded crimes since December 2010 which was as far back as I could get.:D0 -
We have asbos in our area
. Fairly high crime rate tbh, Near county town, which ha its own drawbacks, and contains an area o
N the poverty index: the only area in the affluent county. I like that our big local villages are vibrant and full of families, i dislike that this seems to go hand in hand with poor behaviour and crime. We also have some pub issues. One is a tax loss for someone, and staffed like a city bar, which means no landlord or landlady making a call to stop sering someone...different staff every nightm usually young do not recognise trouble.0
