For the benefit of others, here is what the article actually says on the issue.
"... environmental wardens could give you a 20 fine for leaving your engine idling - although you will be warned to switch off first - as a way of helping Edinburgh meet strict European targets on emissions."I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -

Surely the fine is in burning xs petrol which you've paid for, paid tax on and paid tax on the tax for? With petrol so expensive I never understand why I'm usually the only one to turn his engine off in a traffic jam or when I know the timings of the traffic lights.
For once we agree - the driver pays for the fuel, surely whether he wates it or not is entirely up to him?0 -
I think you just like contradicting yourself.
#88 1m safe at slow speeds
#96 it isn't safe, ever
Have you read cycle craft?
You're not very bright, are you?
If I am cycling past a parked vehicle, the risk is that the door will open into my path and knock me off. That is all.
One moving vehicle, a cyclist, passing a stationary van or car, presents a different set of hazards from a moving car passing a moving cyclist.
I'm sure you can see that?0 -

well for one. Its more likely to be diesel
secondly, its nothing to do with sitting in traffic.
Its usually trucks/buses sitting parked up for extended periods of time.0 -

Yes, as long he personally inhales all toxic fumes.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Indeed. Despite being a keen cyclist I do not cycle for environmental reasons, I do so because its fast and free. I have no time for this environmental nonsense.
Well that's just stupid. Why on earth don't they turn their engines off?!
because buses/trucks were taking breaks, waiting for staff changes etc with engines running.
so the rules were brought in.
theres been rules on this in Edinburgh for years.
I remember signs going up on bus changover points 10+ years ago

Because statistically speaking, starting those things is the most likely time for something to break.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I thought you had a modicum of intelligence until you came out with that particular piece of foolishness.0
