Illegal parking in cycle lanes - name and shame

well how would you work that?
the poster in question is holding their line.
I wouldnt be ducking in after a parked car, like the 1st cyclist.
If you are going to preach about safe overtaking distances of 1.5m, then post a video of yourself overtaking at much less than this, then be prepared to have this highlighted. Which is what the person has done.
It would work by the cyclist seeing the problems ahead and slowing down, rather than speeding up and overtaking.
The van driver is clearly at fault and my comments are a bit tongue in cheek here, but most of the problems are of their own making and they have broken their own "rules" they were so insistent upon earlier in this thread.0 -

Yes.but most of the problems are of their own making
No.
Maybe I should have eased off a little, but I was looking behind to check some other silly sod wasn't coming through.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

their own makings? so why didnt the van slow down?(you know following your advice to the cyclists)
why did it simply barge in on the cyclist further up the road?0 -

Your cycling is akin to the van drivers and not excusable. Because you could fit through, you went through.
If you were looking behind to check, you should have eased off.
A good example of extremly poor driving and also poor cycling.0 -

I did yes, I actually skipped the video forward to that point, missing the first pass completely until you said this ^^ lol.... :rotfl:Definitely not safe cycling from yourself, what were you preaching about safe overtaking distances, 1.5m?
.
Actually that was not the cycling error in that video.....
The mistake was in riding too close to the "door zone", both cyclists should have been at least 1m away from the parked vehicle. Cycling too close to parked vehicles can get you killed very quickly...... BUT had they done this, they would have been squashed by idiots like the van driver.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Sadly, just one of many that I see on a daily basis.and also poor cycling.
If it makes you feel better, yes, in retrospect my cycling could have been better. One good thing about videoing your journeys is that you can go back and see how situations developed, and see whether you responded correctly, and it does IMO help you constantly improve.
I previously thought we *all* constantly tried to make our parking, driving, cycling and walking safer and more considerate to all other road users, but some comments in this have suggested otherwise at times.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I could explain kinematic dynamic envelopes to you, and how it's these that you use to determine passing distances, but I suspect it would be a waste of typing.

It would be, as it would contradict your earlier point that 1.5m was the bare minimum safe overtaking distance, when I had the sheer audicity to suggest that 1m may have been a safe overtaking distance.
Apart from that I agree with your other points.0
