Well, I think I'll need to agree a mileage rate in advance and not rely on his sense of fair play....
Remember, he has done nothing wrong here... he typed in his maximum bid, whatever that was, and he got it at a low price because nobody else bid more... that's auctions for you... it's not his fault!

Frankly, hoping he gives you more is wishful thinking, the sale price is the sale price at the end of the day... yes, I've had people "round it up" to the nearest note and refuse my offer of change, quite a few times in fact, and I've done it myself when collecting too, but we're talking a quid or two only, don't expect him to give you any more than £1.04, and if he gives you a fiver, be happy!

Well done for going through with the sale though. It's a lesson learnt. I've won things cheap a couple of times and got the old "Sorry mate I dropped it down the stairs" or similar... when I say never mind, I'll still buy it even though its broken, "Already disposed of it, sorry..." Big neg!
  • Had the same with a large sofa, armchair and footstool set.

Set the bidding from 1p but buyer to collect. We just wanted it taken away as we could not do it.

Sure enough, it sold for 1p!!!!!!

Was happy though as it was all duly collected and so we got rid of it for free.

Oh Martin, you are every Ebayers dream come true!

Sorry mate, but if I was your buyer I would be rubbing my hands in glee, and wouldn't pay a penny more, as you would learn the hard way.

Your starting price should be the VERY LEAST that you will take for an item - with a view to it going higher. 9 watchers is nothing - the last thing I sold had 83 watchers at the end. There is generally a bidding war at the end, but you cannot guarantee that there will be.

Martin, seriously, are you trolling - you have offered to deliver it?? and hoping he will be offering you some fuel money? You should be telling HIM that you want fuel money. You have your sellers fees to pay yet. You are already out of pocket on this

Heres a thought - keep an eye on your buyers ebay page, and see if they relist it - and you will see what you could have earned.
The opposite of what you know...is also true

He has got in touch to collect. Do you think he will hand over a bit more or just count out £1.04p?

Though he only has to give £1.04 I reckon most decent people would round it up. Sold an old set of golf clubs, wanted to get rid of. Went for £16, buyer gave me £20 and told me to keep the change.

I bid on a car bumper which went for £1. Gave the seller £5, told him thanks and have a drink on me.

Hm not neccessarily so, a family member bid on something and won and as it said buyer collect and I'm the nearest, I got the job of picking it all up. We went round tonight and I picked it up and asked how much had the family member won it for.............well I was stunned and absolutely gutted for the seller!!! I felt sooooooooo guilty and embarrassed taking away his prized possessions at such a steal (maybe not as good as yours OP), that if I could have afforded to hand some more cash over I would have :o:o:o:o:o:o:o

It's getting these absolute bargains that keeps a lot of people coming back to buy on ebay.
I wouldn't expect anyone to pay more than they bid on an item, nor would I pay more, except for the few pence that would round it up to 50p or £.

If we are talking about rounding to the nearest pound it would actually make sense for the OP to say to buyer, lets call it a pound, rather than flap around witing for 2 x 2 p pieces. Another 4p is hardly here or there.
