Total Scumbag

Not looking for advice, just wanted to let off steam ...

I sold a dress in November and a week later had a Paypal case opened for non-receipt (no prior communication at all).

As it was less than a tenner, I hadn't bothered with recorded delivery, so I refunded.

For some reason, something about it at the time didn't ring true, and as the buyer sells using the same account, I've kept an intermittent eye on what she's been selling.

Sure enough, the very dress she purchased from me is now for sale. Some people really are just total scum, aren't they?

  • Have you got another ebay account? I would be very tempted to buy it back and give here a taste of her own medicine :D

Have you reported this to eBay? It may well be you're not the only person this buyer/seller has done this to.

That had crossed my mind, but unsurprisingly, she sends everything recorded. Would almost be worth it, though, just to be able to leave a big, fat neg and 1* DSRs across the board.
  • I'd report her/him to Ebay. Could be they have done it before.

I haven't, mostly because I don't imagine they'd care less. Can't even see it on my sold items any more as it's more than 60 days since it was sold, and also, how would I prove it was the self-same item?

As nothing can be proved I might be tempted to email really politely and say that you note they are selling your dress and should you now inform Royal Mail that the claim you made will now be repaid by the buyer. Or something like that, obviously it does no good at all but it might put the wind up the buyer a bit if she is dodgy.

Great minds - have already done so. No response, though - what a surprise!!

I often make the mistake that people are like me and tend to panic if accused of any wrong doing. I do forget that some people see being caught out in a lie as merely an inconvenience and I shouldn't really be surprised when people like that don't even bother to defend themselves when they get an email suggesting that all might not be in order.

I have been out for breakfast today and sat near me was a loudish group of men discussing various cons and dodgy dealings. One was boasting that he had been 'done' for a fake Uggs scam so he was going to have to come up with something different as he promised he'd behave if they let him off. They all thought it was really funny, but I get panicky merely seeing the email strap line 'xxx buyer has sent this message about your item'- as I assume i've done something wrong.

Is it an auction or BIN? I would "buy" it with a throw-away account. Just so she never sells it, the b*tch.

  • Refunding privately or too easily allows these people to keep doing it. If all problematic sales were handled through the official ebay route then some of these people would struggle to stay under the ebay radar. It's these scumbags that spoil it for all the decent folk.
