Many folks on here will have bought & sold thousands of items via Ebay without any snag at all.

It's such a shame though that Ebay does attract so many scumbags - you have my sympathies.

If you look at nearly all the posts in this section they're either from buyers whove been ripped off by dodgy sellers, or dodgy buyers scamming poor sellers.

And in many cases, you never get a genuine solution. A rip off seller just sold me an incomplete & non working pressure washer. Even if Ebay rule in my favour, & ask me to return it for a refund, the postage cost on such a heavy item will leave me out of pocket.

Because this is the eBay board and posters generally post if they need help or advice.

There would not be much call for comments to a ....I paid for an item and it is here on time, exactly what I needed....post!

No no no...what you need to do is print out all the evidence, prepare a written statement and go to the Police and report it as a crime.

That is exactly what has happened.

    Report>get crime number.

The Police should be interested as its a nice clear case and will add to their stats with minimal work.

Remember they might be ripping others off too and if they are minded i that way,who knows what other crimes they are into...
You think so? If they "laughed" me out of the Police station, i would raise a complaint. The Police are there to deal with crime and if someone pitches up and reports one, they first have to decide if a crime has been committed, and if it has, they should then take details and issue crime number.

For example,The Theft Act 1969 Sec 1 states..

A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it.

    And, back to reality!!!

Its nice to think this is how it would happen but in reality they would dismiss you out the door telling you it is a civil matter. With a LOT of complaining, badgering and pushing, you might, just might get them to 'look into it' but thats pretty unlikely.

Just had a quick look at two of my buyers who claimed they didn't receive the goods and both have items in their selling history. Can't prove anything of course, and may be perfectly innocent, but one of these items is a film import and not easy to get hold of (and hence sells for a higher than usual price). It just seemed odd to me at the time that the one item to go missing in that delivery batch was the high priced imported disc. Ah well, what can you do?

So long as you've covered yourself, it's the royal mail they are ripping off, not yourself, right?

revenge is a dish best eaten cold... if you felt so inclined you could check through her past buys and sales and do a bit of cross-referencing. it's amazing what a bit of patience and detective work can bring to light. i uncovered a shill ring. ebay did nothing. it was, however, a big ring with big sales so i passed the info to hmrc who were very pleased.

I've done the same, though not on such a massive scale. I was looking at cars once, I'd had a saved search going for some months so you tend to notice if the same names/photographs etc crop up. I was looking at one listing and noticed bidding that just smacked to me of not being quite right and I could swear I'd seen the backdrop of that particular drive on another recent listing but the sellers name had been different ..... and after about half an hour of delving through these two accounts' previous items bought and sold it was clear they either knew each other or were the same person. I sent a message to the third person who I suspected was getting fleeced and said he may want to check out some of their history and decide what to do? I also sent a note to eBay.

I can't stand dishonesty but it comes so easily to some people

Is it definitely the same dress?. Was it a one off dress? How do you know its not the same one?

I agree that as a seller if a buyer did a INR and then several months later sold the same dress on ebay I would be a bit suspicious at first but I have before purchased something on ebay, it didnt arrive so I had to purchase the item again from another seller and then when I have finished with said item it will end up on ebay.

My point is how do you know it is yours dress and that the buyer has not purchased another?

She certainly hasn't bought one via Ebay as I've kept an eye on her purchases as well as her sales since her INR claim (she buys and sells on the same account, bit stupid really). I bought my dress from M&S three years ago so she wouldn't have found it still for sale in one of their branches.

You're right, I can't KNOW for certain that it's the same one, but I'd put money on the fact that it is.
