    No mate.
Supply and fix 9x FD30 doors plus one FD60.
Complete with intermittant smoke guard strips , 3x grade 16 hinges ,over head self closures , night latch ,handles , replacement fire approved doorstop, fire approved hard wood thresholds.
Price to include the removal and disposal of old door and doorstop.
Fill old hinge holes in frame ,trim door to size , route out smoke guard strips ,hang, replace doorstop and threshold. night latch and handles plus overhead closure. I also know this is a period property ,the existing frames are weird and wonderful sizes , twisted and not square and theres three floors.
If you can do it for less, i will give you a job.

I believe the OP was referring to hollow core internal doors, not FD30 or FD60 overhead door closures with intumescent strips etc etc etc so its not really comparable.

Just out of interest if the frames are weird and wonderful sizes and shapes have you had the doors specially made or are they standard sizes?

I dont know ,i'm a plasterer not a chippy.
Seriously, some i'll be able to trim to fit but others i intend to scribe a new door lining into the existing lining to produce a square hole of the right size and then cover the join by moving the architrave. I have had to do this before ,so i know its possible but its a right pain in the butt.
All this just demonstrates why discussing prices online about jobs you haven't seen , is futile.

Lol, made me chuckle that.......... Be careful as you can only trim a few mm off the width and about 10mm max off the height before you void the certification.Anything happends and it could bite ya bum. Its impossible to keep the certification sticker on the top if you need to shoot some off the top.I wish they would go back to putting colour coded plugs in the sides as this wasn't a problem .

Not sure I agree with discussing pricing online is futile.Hanging FD30 and FD60,s are not everyday doors whereas probably 85% of the doors in the UK are hollow core. People just need to post as much info as possible.

I know this is an old thread but it's top of the pile on Google when you search for prices to hang a door so thought I'd chuck my 2 cents in. I run a professional Handyman business and regularly hang doors - and do a professional job. I don't touch fire doors as they're a nightmare and generally a 2 man job - most 3 storey new builds have FD30/60's - as do most newish flats. Try lifting a fire door down 3 flights of stairs, trim/cut, lift back up 3 flights of stairs, fit, sometimes trim again... absolute nightmare.

Anyway, hats off to Homeland, Gastines2 and everyone else running a professional outfit. You can't expect a business to survive charging £15 a door or £90 a day - the numbers just don't work.

In addition to all the hidden costs Homeland listed you've also got:
    - Time to visit customers to look at jobs
    - Time to send out quotes
    - Time to buy materials etc.
    - Time to do paperwork, invoicing etc.
    - Time to keep up to date on latest regs etc.
    - Holidays!
That's right folks, in the small amount of time we stop working we also stop earning the pennies! 2 weeks off means 2 weeks of no money and a further 2 weeks of filling the calendar back up when you get back
£90 quickly turns into £45 a day - that's below minimum wage! I work on approx. £30/hr + materials and if I bring home £20-30k a year I'm happy. But then I run a business based on doing a pro job, I don't advertise and have a waiting list of 4+ weeks. You get what you pay for!

I generally never quote without looking at the job first but I'd expect to charge £150-200 to fit 5 doors. £140 is a bargain - I'd only do it at that price if I literally had nothing else to do, which just doesn't happen.

Paid £45 per door down in Cornwall - pretty happy with that - took the guy 3 hours all in all - after he paid tax, travel, tools , holiday, pension, NI etc I suspect £30 p/h gross is a fair wage.

My husbands a joiner CTJ, for fitting an already supplied door and hardware, he would charge £35 for 1 door. If more than 1 door then £30 per door.
  • I know this is an old thread but it made me laugh :D HAHAHA
I myself am a carpenter/joiner. NVQ level 3. I work for the biggest building firm in the UK and can earn up to 1300 pounds a week. we do not take doors off and draw round them. This man obviously has no idea how to carry out a proper job, and should not be allowed near a saw or a hammer, let alone in a customers house to carry out work. THAT should be left to a competent tradesman.

    £30 a door with handle.
