Sorry, I forgot to add, it had it's MOT the other day, V reg Lupo, 16 years old (built in 1999, sold in January 2000)
Passed the MOT with just one advisory, a small hole in the exhaust. The garage filled it with putty and complimented on what a fine example of how an old Volkswagen can do. They said it was very tidy underneath and were surprised how solid the suspension and mounts were.
Not bad for a car I bought for a thousand pounds and have so far smashed nearly 50k miles on.0 -
nothing major... a days work for a handy diy'er..
ive not long changed my rear engine mount on mine.. £12 on ebay. and 20 mins to change..
strip and clean breaks, maybe new shoes.. again not hard.
bearing is hub off and pressed out.. new bearing pressed in.. only bit you need a garage for it the press.. £15/20 for them to press it in. about an hour or so to do it yourself
for the cv joint iirc its a whole shaft needed
Been to collect car, garage says it could be £80+ for the mount depending where he can get it from whether it needs one from Renault or not. And £90 for the wheel bearing. Didn't quote for the brakes as he doesn't know until he takes a look as may just need cleaning. He recommended to get the CV joint advisory done too as it will just eventually go.
I had new rear brake shoes done last summer at a different garage along with a wheel cylinder and brake pipe when the n/s/r wheel seized up.0 -

Please get a real quote before you do anything else. A homer with a cheap mount and bearing and brake clean up sounds expensive to me. Especially if there is no MOT guaranteed. What if he strips it and tells you you need new brakes and cables and the backplate is ripped out?0

Anyone with a Focus.
Any idea what's hanging off the bottom of the 1.8 one, and how much it's likely to cost to replace?
There's a pint on offer💙💛 💔0 -
Heat shield.
I'd either remove completely or take off the fixing bolts/nuts and re-attach.
I normally use chicken wire folded over a couple of times, poke the bolt through (or press it over the stud) and re-attach.0 -
