Had my wheel bearing done last week too. Hyundai barge is back to being deliciously silent around town. Unless I am feeling especially childish and kickdown from 0-30. :p
  • I've had the wheel bearing, engine mount, and rear brakes MOT failures sorted on the Megane. Car runs sweet as a nut now, no more droning noise from the bearing, and the gear stick no longer wobbles from the engine mount.

Re-test booked for 4pm today. Fingers crossed it passes now. :)

    EDIT: Passed :D

In the interest of Bangernomics, how much did that set you back? :)

£150 which included filling the CV joint (which was an advisory on the fail sheet) so that it no longer allows the ingress of dirt. The advisory on the pass certificate now reflects this.

It's like driving a new car now. Didn't realise it was because of the engine mount that was making the gear stick move and wobble when you pressed and depressed the clutch. Research on a Renault forum lead me to believe it was a gear linkage.

Looking forward to another bargain year of motoring now with the megane. :)

We've a 2003 seat Toledo 1.8 which cost us £800 last August. So far has run faultlessly since we bought it. It has today clicked on to 102000 miles and has clearly been well looked after and has a big pile of invoices including the original sales invoice when it was new. It's been serviced exactly to manufacturer recommendation by a main dealer until we got it. We have had it serviced this week by a local garage at less than half what the last main dealer service cost.

Ours is the same, mot July. In 9 months it's cost us £800 to buy, and £135 for a major service. We were paying about £250-300 for the previous car on finance (we voluntary surrendered it back to the HPI company as it seemed a waste of money)
