Used the Gliptone leather cleaner and conditioner, and here are the results-
Passenger seat has come the best, looks like the drivers side has too much wear, although it looks worse than it is as the conditioner has dampened the worst areas but it looks a lot better when dry. If I am honest I think a bowl of warm soapy water would have had easier and better cleaning results but using the nail brush or similar is a great tool.
You may notice the carpets appear a lot cleaner, I had them vacuumed and than I used a can of Turtle Wax Interior 1 on the stains.
Had the first issue with the car this morning, opened the boot to put Tesco shopping in (after tw@tting my head really badly when it fell on me 'cos I didn't bother to open it properly) and it wouldn't close on the catch. Drove it home, fortunately the boot is very heavy (bruise on my bald head is testament to that) so it stayed shut. Tinkered around with it on the drive for 5 mins and it is all fine now.0 -
Nice bargain buy and at that vintage I'd be dropping the sump to clear the oil pump mesh and scrape the sludge out.
That's a must do job! Then fill up with good quality fully synth oil, changed every 6 thousand miles... looks after the turbo & the timing chain
My 9-5 gets this treatment & the engine is spotless.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Paid £495 for the car with a full years MOT.
You haggled him down from 795? Thats alot of car for the money, turbo would be the main thing that might go. Always cool it down some before parking I think is the best adviceHow much do you pay for a sump drop and can a local indy do it?0 -

If you're decent on the spanners & have the right equipment you can do it yourself, loads of info online.
Yes, a good Indy can do it.
The guy I've used for years did mine when I first got it (5-6 years) & gave everything a good clean charged £150 ish (I think).
He dropped it again 2 years later, after following the oil change advice above & it was as clean as a whistle... can't remember what he charged for that but it was a lot cheaper. It's not been done since.
Well worth asking about if everything else is ok & you're thinking of keeping it for a while.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
Yep- paid £495, I was polite and told him I had come to buy a car and not kick tyres.
This one is definitely a keeper so I will get the sump done, I have seen some films on you tube of how bad it can get.
Thanks for the advice.
Just spent £8 on a pair of wiper blades but there is nothing else it needs now.0 -

Hows it running? Did you get round to finding a price for the sump drop?Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
Haven't got prices yet, it's on the list of things to do. Spent the day trying to sort the stereo out as only getting sound from the back and nothing from the door or dash speakers. Otherwise it is running like a dream!0

You lucky boy! Saabs (old cheap Saabs that is) are a real hoot. My uncle worked for Aston Martin for years and he had three Saabs, he loved them.0 -
