Will get the advisory shock absorber done in the next couple of months when I know I can be without the car for a day.
Nothing else to report, and feels like it'll be A-OK for this year's MoT which it can go for from March 12th..so yes, £1410 for 4 years and still got a good few miles left in it yet. It;s lasted 6 months longer than Fusion Senior did, and still only has 116k on the clock (Fusion Sr had around 155k before the clutch gave up) so 155k is the target for Junior!!

Good News - it passed again!!well, actually I had to put a £5 wiper blade on it to pass, but that makes a grand total of £1415 into it's 5th year with me...still runs like a dream and still great on the economy
Bad News - found a couple of patches that'll need welding before next year's ticket, awkward place where the brake pipes run. It'll cost £250 to put right, but it's not desperate...
So, quandry - this may be the last year for Fusion Jnr with me, but if it keeps running fine I may well get the welding done and have another year or two out of it. Or, I keep an eye on what comes up at a decent price and buy a replacement at any point through this year, and shift Jr on either private sale or scrap (which I think it's too good for but is less hassle) It owes me nowt, and if I just keep it for this year that'll be £1415 for 5 years motoring, or £283 per year for it's time with me. That's not shabby at all, well happy with it.
Which way will I go?? Dunno today, but I've got up to a year to make my mind up......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

For anyone who has/is following this thread (other than me
) yesterday was both a good and bad day....
After 4.5 years, Fusion Junior has goneThankfully not to a scrapyard, but to someone who needed a cheap as chips car for their first car, to hopefully start stacking up NCD in, as they've got their test this week and are expecting/hoping to pass. It's still running like a dream, and hopefully with only 117k on it it will for a few more years yet. Total cost to buy & maintain for 4.5 years as per my last post, £1415.
This also means I'm leaving Bangernomics behind for a few years at least, after many years of doing it (and being quite good at it, if I do say so myself). I picked up Junior's replacement on Saturday morning, and with a nett buying cost of £1500 (£1800 purchase price - £300 I sold Junior for) that takes me officially out of the game for at least however long the new motor lasts me for.
Doesn't mean I won't be checking in periodically to see how other people are getting on though......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

The original £1000 purchase limit was yonks ago and taking inflation into account it's nearly double now.Anyway, VW Fox has just shat the bed with the front left McPherson strut, so I'll be getting a pair done soon.I've just acquired a set of steel wheels that I'm fitting 185/60-14 tyres to, instead of the ridiculously shallow 195/50-15 tyres that are on the alloys that came with the car.One pothole was all it took to bend a front alloy and I'm bloody sure that same shock was responsible for the strut crapping out.I hate these alloys - utterly unnecessary and it's not as if they're any lighter than the steels anyway.1

Potholes are a pain no matter what you're in...our "posh" car, a Peugeot 3008, hit one that took out both driver's side coils at a princely amount of £1k to sort out, and that was with our long-time trusted local garage, never mind main dealer...apparently they're a total pig to change......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Anything under 3K is now easily bangernomics I reckon. Probably higher than that in reality.0
