Your Bangernomics successes

My banger (if £1500 is classed as that) sailed though the MOT yesterday. The guy asked me if I wanted the good news, so asked, he stated that it's immaculate underneath, no rust, I asked for the bad news and he say there wasn't any.
Drove out happy as my car is getting fairly old.

bought a delivery-miles Chrysler Delta on a pre-reg back in 2012 when the brand was being withdrawn from the UK. still have it 11 years and 75k miles later. present book value is very much in banger territory. it's given no trouble at all, needed new front springs last year but that's to be expected at some point. recently passed the mot with no advisories. so what started out as a bit of an oddity but not a banger is now a definite banger success.1

I think anything upto £5k is banger territory now.HillStreetBlues said:My banger (if £1500 is classed as that) sailed though the MOT yesterday. What?!?!?!?!? wash your mouth out with soap.....still plenty of stuff out there for £1k or less. You may have to look a little harder, but still out thereididgetwhereiamtoday said:

The original £1000 equates to around £1300 now.£5K is totally out of banger territory.1

What tyres did you choose?tommyedinburgh said:Banger number two through its MOT today.£319, MOT fee, full service, 1 x lamp and 2 x tyres.Delighted.
I've always been conscious that cheap tyres can be a false economy0 -
It’s a big heavy Toyota Corolla Verso so I’ve been going with Goodyear on it the last couple of times. Certainly last longer than the Hancook’s I tried before that.fatbelly said:

Good choice IMHO. I got a good deal on Goodyear Vector 2's at the start of the pandemic (think the Vector 3s were coming in) and they've hardly worn. Very good all-season tyre and very good value. It’s a big heavy Toyota Corolla Verso so I’ve been going with Goodyear on it the last couple of times. Hankooks are also very good but you are right that they don't last as long. Both brands are hugely better than the budget rubbish and not far off the best in terms of quality, but cheaper.0 -
Well, 9 months on and I still haven't got the bl00dy tyres!! time & opportunity have just got in the way....only got another 1.5 working days before xmas so should be able to get them before 25th. No other spend, so still looking like £1300 total by Feb for it's 3rd birthday with meGunJack said:
Well, needed a back-box as well, so £197 altogether (the 2 parts were well and truly rusted together) so £1238 in total. Add £50-60 for the tyres when I get them still under £1300 and that should go through to next year's MoT (barring any unforseen disasters!!GunJack said:Took Fusion Junior for it's MoT yesterday..... better than expected, just needs a middle section exhaust and the headlights buffing up
So will have a fresh ticket for around £100 or less
There's a couple of tyres on the way out (Advisories) which'll be about £50-odd but they can wait for a couple of months.
That takes it to in the region of £1141 in total, 2 months into it's third year with me. Even with the tyres when I get them it'll be £1200 for 3 years, which ain't too bad at all.... Fusion senior spoiled me a bit at £900-odd for 3.5 years of ownership, but I'm hoping at only 103k miles I'll have Junior for several more years yet
