The car has gone to scrap heaven 🥺GunJack said:
So...what happened @noclaf ??noclaf said:
Thanks will try them. I've put the car up for sale but not sure I want to go through the hassle of attracting the wrong sort of potential buyers and it dragging out with time wasters etcGunJack said:
try the online scrap brokers - I ended up gong through jamjar, best quote out of the three I tried. It was a local agent of the particular network that collected & most pay you by bank transfer. All collected, paid and ownership transferred same daynoclaf said:Looks like it's time to part ways with my shed..over 10 years of stellar service but the gearbox/clutch need replacing and IMO not worth fixing from a cost/benefit perspective.
Has anyone got any recommendations for scrappers in London?
Typically do the companies use one of those 'flatbed' style trucks to take away the vehicle?
It had a good innings but was time to go!
Used a company that guaranteed a minimum amount and they arranged for the car to be removed by a registered scrap company. Quick, hassle free and nobody down the other end saying 'best price mate'.

Lee, is the new one a petrol engine with aluminium block and/or head? My previous rover 45 1.4 petrol K-series engine got up to temp pretty quick, much quicker than a diesel motor...Deleted_User said:Today I put a new battery in the key fob of the 04 Focus Zetec and turns out it was just a dead battery, no more unlocking and locking the car by hand. #ImprovedItAlready!
Also the temp gauge appears to shoot up to temp (middle of gauge) within a couple of minutes of driving. Is this normal? It's been years since I've driven a petrol car and usually it takes ages to get up to temp on my 64 Focus TDCI.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

How often are you folks servicing your Banger? I have my 2010, 126,000 mile Yaris, it burns a bit of oil so I keep a very close eye on it. I last had it serviced 3000 miles ago / 10 months ago, I was wondering if a 10 months service cycle might be more streetwise than leaving it a year, especially as it is an oil burner?1

i am not recommending this but i am a great believer in if its not broke don't fix it. In the 18 years i have had my galaxy i have never had a official service. i just change the oil/filter when i feel like it and replace tyres/brakes/plugs/leads etc when needed. I only do approx 5k miles per year so wear and tear is pretty minimal"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

There are plenty of bangernomics vehicles avaibale at the likes of copart and IAA, mainly old hondas where the damage is stolen catalyst (£250-£300 repair), i managed to get a 07 Auto Jazz from IAA for £230 plus cost of catalyst its come to just short of £500 for a car with 68k miles and full service history from Honda Bristol. Making a lovely run around for the missus (just need something to protect the undershield now)2

I would service at least once a year. My current car had been 3 years (but under 10k miles) since last service when I got it. I serviced immediately and then again after about 5k miles. I'm now doing yearly. Oil is the one thing that will keep the engine going so personally wouldn't skip but I do service it myself.tommyedinburgh said:How often are you folks servicing your Banger? Why are all these cats getting stolen? And why are they getting rid of the car through auction for the sake of buying a new cat for £250-£300?bengalknights said:There are plenty of bangernomics vehicles avaibale at the likes of copart and IAA, mainly old hondas where the damage is stolen catalyst (£250-£300 repair), i managed to get a 07 Auto Jazz from IAA for £230 plus cost of catalyst its come to just short of £500 for a car with 68k miles and full service history from Honda Bristol. I've had 2 cars in the past that required new cats due to rot and I didn't just get rid of the cars, I replaced the cats like you would with any repair.0 -
The Catalysts are stolen due to the minute amount of precious metals in them and easy access on these older cars to cut off with a electric saw then sell onto unscrupulous metal traders. The insurance companies can only use manufacturer parts instead of 3rd party which results in the vehicle being wrote off as the value of the part is more than the vehicle (a Jazz original Catalyst from Honda is £1.2k, used ones around £120 from scrappies and new 3rd party £200 ebay)Deleted_User said:

If you're lucky you might get the original one back!bengalknights said:
