I've just realised I've not followed my own method of calculation on this latest swapover, so I'll put it right....

    1. The old Fusion cost me £901 in total for it's 3.5 years  (in the earlier post I subtracted the scrap price I got, which I shouldn't have - any sale/scrap monies get taken off the purchase price of the replacement)

    2. So the new Fusion cost me (£795-£156) = £639 as a starting point. It's in for it's MoT on Friday, so we'll see how it gets on. I bought on condition & history so the fact it only had a month's ticket on it didn't worry me, if it does fail it'll only be a cheap fix, and then I'll have an even better idea of what's what with it....watch this space :)
Good luck, I’m predicting it will cost you less than £75 to get it through the MOT exc the test fee.
...and give the man a gold star!!!

Just a leaky shock replaced for the MoT, £73-odd all-in. 1 advisory to buff up the plastic headlights which I didn't get time to do before I took it, so fair call - they're not too bad but will get done when the weather is better :)

So, £713 to start with fresh MoT, and no sign of any other issues!!
Superb! Wish I could have put money on it!

    Bargain motoring at it's best!

Although I do feel like a pauper driving around in my new battered 2004 Focus Zetec even though my 2014 Focus TDCI is at home. :D

When I first sold my year-ish old car to join the exclusive Bangernomics club I felt the same way. Well over that now. There is simply no better motoring than Bangernomics motoring. Even the wife seen the light in January.

We'll see...this one has a lot to live up to after the last one...and I've only got £188 to play with for 3.5 years to beat it :)

Looks like it's time to part ways with my shed..over 10 years of stellar service but the gearbox/clutch need replacing and IMO not worth fixing from a cost/benefit perspective.
Has anyone got any recommendations for scrappers in London?

try the online scrap brokers - I ended up gong through jamjar, best quote out of the three I tried. It was a local agent of the particular network that collected & most pay you by bank transfer. All collected, paid and ownership transferred same day :)

Thanks will try them. I've put the car up for sale but not sure I want to go through the hassle of attracting the wrong sort of potential buyers and it dragging out with time wasters etc
Typically do the companies use one of those 'flatbed' style trucks to take away the vehicle?

Yeah, they pitched up with a lorry to take it away, they won't try and drive it to their depot/yard...the guy who came for mine was chuffed that he could just drive it onto the truck :)

Today I put a new battery in the key fob of the 04 Focus Zetec and turns out it was just a dead battery, no more unlocking and locking the car by hand. #ImprovedItAlready!

Also the temp gauge appears to shoot up to temp (middle of gauge) within a couple of minutes of driving. Is this normal? It's been years since I've driven a petrol car and usually it takes ages to get up to temp on my 64 Focus TDCI.
