Vehicle Excise Duty - the annual road tax to us old duffers ;)

1.4 TDCi fiesta or similar? I do 30-mile commute in a Fusion (same engine) and it's averaged 60.x mpg over almost 2 yrs and £30 pa road tax.

It's one of those 'not well liked but nothing wrong with it' cars.

    Spotted this 2008 diesel, 93k miles, £1000

Also, the market for bangers seems terribly slow at the moment so there's some bargains to be had - I haven't been able to sell an Accord Diesel with full Exec spec with low miles for £750! Madness

Have you sold this? If not PM me the details :)

I'd have another one in a flash - higher seating, better for Mrs.G-J's back getting in & out, and a decent sized boot without having to fold the rear seats down :)

There's lots of them on the road but never that many for sale - people get 'em and keep 'em ;)

So, the 3 year bangernomics Mondeo is coming to an end.

It cost £420, needed around £220 of repairs (wheel bearing, driveshaft bearing and some odd bits) at the time, and about 350 total in MOT repairs along the way. £1000 or so for 3 years and around 45k of motoring isn't too bad but not the best I've managed.

The past couple of months it's lost power / won't rev but with no codes and no apparent faults + needs a wheel bearing & 2 tyres + MOT is due in 6 weeks, so it's headed for the great ben can factory in the sky. Should offset the new one by about £100.

Replacement is bought and getting an MOT at the moment. A Daewoo Tacuma 2.0 auto!
    • Been off road for 12 months, last MOT was July 2017 (not tested last year as the owner had stopped driving)
    • Paid on Sunday, collected it yesterday and drove straight to the garage as that was the only legal trip we could do. Drives very nicely.
    • Failed the MOT this morning on 2x brake pipes, 2x oil leaks (one engine and one transmission), a vacuum leak to the brake servo (not affecting servo operation) and the headlamps need polishing.
    • Purchase price was £250 Great British Pounds :D

It's all stuff I could do myself except that I'm insanely busy at the moment and the garage has quoted £200 including the test to get it through, so that's £450 for a car with a (genuine) 12 month MOT as the starting point.

It will also be getting a timing belt + aux belt + full set of tyres once it's on the road again but those are running costs so not counting them just yet.

Let the fun begin again :)

    Edit:

Add £61.14 to the total for a Gates timing belt kit + aux belt (will take a chance on the water pump and aux belt tensioner for now - they're both quiet and this is bangernomics after all!)

Plus £7.95 for a download of the official GM service / repair manual for all Daewoo / Chevrolet models in 4 languages!

Total so far £519.09 and haven't even got it home yet :D

Tyres have also been priced up at £160 for a set of 4, which is quite a bit more pocket friendly than the Mondeo ones were!

Unfortunately, every time I went to look at a cheap banger with FSH it had sold before I got chance to see it so now ended up with SEAT Ibiza 1.9TDI Sport for £1000 with 12mths MOT and past 3 year MOT no advisory’s so hopefully that will last a while.

When I'm playing the fantasy bangernomics garage I stick a 10 mile radius into autotrader and select auto transmission as I find it brings up some more "interesting" vehicles and can be a great pointer to thinking a bit outside the box.

Good luck with the new car, for less than £600 on the road for a year sounds like a good buy.

Yep, not a bad looking car for the money and - as of yesterday - has full MOT with no advisories. Fully expect to get considerably more than a year out of it btw ;)

Nicely colour coordinated with my 5 series as well :D

Looks tidy Joe :) Don't think I could stomach the running costs though.

It's for my OH to replace her Mondeo and most of the use is a weekly shopping trip of about 45 miles plus a couple of 30 mile round trips to see her mum each week, all on cou try A roads and dual carriageway. So fuel isn't a big factor really and the rest of the costs pretty much match the Mondy.
