Hi All
Just after some advice had many banger cars but my latest 220 cdi has been a bad one the injectors are leaking and the local mechanic could not get one out , just wondering what fellow banger owners would do in the situation with regards to getting rid or keeping car getting it repaired , the car itself cost £700 had it 2 months.
It's the old catch 22 keep the car and it turns into money pit or just sell it but I am concerned I will get next to nothing back.
Any advice would be great many thanks.0 -

Have a look at what they go for as spares&repairs and then take a view. Can you afford to write off 700-scrap value? Will it be a decent car once it's fixed? There are many possibilities..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I would love to do something like this, love old cheap cars cause you don't need to care about them, bump into a wall who cares, leave it unlocked it doesnt matter
unfortunately insurance is crazy expensive no matter how cheap the car is at my age.0 -

I take it you're a bit young?? Even so, build up NCD in a car that it doesn't really matter if it does get bashed a bit, you've still saved £££ on the cost of the car......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Looks like you can buy it from yourself for even less then!0 -
I suppose that's true I just feel if I'm paying the value of the car in insurance each year then it is not really worth it and for similar insurance I may as well have something nice. And yeah i'm 22. 2 years NCB and counting...
you're missing the point.... the insurance will cost you anyway, so why then waste more money on a "posher" car, when in all likelyhood it'll get scratched in a car park at least??
e.g. my oldest got his first car almost 2 yrs ago (he's 20). Picked him up a Suzuki Wagon R for £450. 1st yr insurance £1380-ish, 2nd year £1000. Cost of buying the car, first year insurance and a year's tax was slightly less than the insurance only had he bought a fiesta, corsa, 206, etc of a similar value, so he effectively got a "free" car and year's tax with his insuranceand if it did get trashed it was only a few hundred quid anyway (in fact, if someone wrote it off for him, he'd probably get more back than he paid for it
You'd be more gutted if someone did that to your "posher" car and the insurance payout was less than you paid for it....
Tip to keep your insurance down - get the car based on insurance prices......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Yep I get you. Someone clearly drove into my car a few days ago very light impact but left paint scratches and a dent, which normally I wouldn't be fussed about but as my car's going back in couple years it will need to be fixed. Ford quoted me £630 yesterday!!! They can pee off!
Day I moved into my new house I reversed into the driveway, and as they say "Brick walls in the mirror are closer than they appear".
If I didn't like driving so much and having a powerful car, I'd definitely be driving a banger that I can crash around in.0 -
Paid £1450 for my Meriva 5 and half years ago, just sold for £375, bought a Hyundai I20 2012 nearly 2 years ago for £1500, should be a few years left in that, just replaced Meriva with 2012 Kia Ceed £1800, I love Bangernomics!!0
