My 2002 2.0 HDI Xsara Picasso - bought 2010 for £800.
Had a bit of squeeling from the brakes.
Checked it in for the "free" brake check at Halfords, well aware of the likely condemnation and exagerated repairs.
Picked up with a couple of advisories, but nothing that really needs doing ....

Bijl if you're looking at S type size and comfort would an E320 not do the job better? Can't speak for all S types but my dads has been a money pit since he bought it. 12k, 2 years and about 6 new tyres later trading in for 3.6. That's before they know the servo and shocks are gonners.... It'd be a pleasure to drive if you didn't need to anticipate triple the braking distance at the moment
Started 07/15. Car finance £6951 , Mortgage: 261k - Savings: £0! Home improvements are expensive0 -

Don't want an E Class as I don't like performing significant rust repairs.
I know more Merc owners that have had significant and expensive problems than Jag owners.

Merc E class W211 would get my vote all day long.
Been to Greece a few times and all the cab drivers have one. Always running nicely and good specs.0 -

I suspect they are not going to be affected by the rust issues. And how many are Auto.
They could also be the automotive equivalent of "triggers broom"0 -

I'd have another S Type in a flash. Great cars. Plenty around. Try to get a post facelift 2002 onwards model.
I've had a handful of S Types - varying between £700 and £1200 from memory..
