The app for Barclay Pinglit, must have heard of it in the news do not work with the rooted or non stock os.

When I telephoned the support for Pinglit, person said the reason is because rooted os is not safe because of modification by the 3rd party and some security function may haven been removed making the os unsafe. However the Barclays is looking into this.

So I would need to install stock rom if I want the app.

    Yep.

If you start with an OS that could contain anything then theres no security from the start. It probably won'tbe any less secure but barclays won't be able to verify every custom ROM that is out there so they limit it to the stock ones.

I tried to install barclays pingit on my ipod touch yesterday after seeing the article on the bbc breakfast, it would not complete the verification, but it works fine on my Android xperia ray.
That's the reason millions are choosing android products ;)

Must admit that I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't install Pingit to my rooted HTC Sensation.
I am still pretty amazed that Barclays haven't bothered to develop a "my account" app for current account holders - I appreciate that they would probably argue that this is due to security reasons, but surely not having an official app just pushes users like me towards using unofficial apps which pose a far greater risk...

I am amazed that people need apps for everything. Even if they developed it I'd hardly ever use it simply because I prefer a computer at home and I don't want to carry a PINsentry card reader on me. If I ever need to use my mobile for online banking I have no problems with using a browser without any app - especially as Barclays have a special website for mobiles http://www.barclays.mobi/.

@thegoodman: it's a surprise to me that you have a rooted phone.

or even an Android device full stop, seeing as how he seems to hate them so much!

I would just find it really handy if they developed an application which would allow me to check my balance and last few transactions with minimal hassle - ie just inputting a PIN, rather than needing a PINsentry, membership number etc.

With the app you can check your balance but not recent transactions, however if you set up a password, then you can log in without pin sentry.

Yes, I can log in to mobile banking without PINsentry, but this means I have to input my full card number, surname, DOB & password info - it would just be really useful if I could see my basic account information by putting in a 4 digit PIN.

This is a really intriguing 'type of work' that supplies you with 'most of the phones' and obliges you to phone Barclays immediately after they released some app. If it is some consumer mobiles testing/research group I am surprised that they cannot find more competent and less biased researchers.

Is it some some Apple's secret subversive service?
