been prevented from going on my local tip to dump a tv.All because I was in a van.I placed it in front of the office door and drove away .
The mad thing about all this is that if you fly tip your rubbish because they wont let you on the tip with it.The council will send out a van with at least to men on board to remove it.They will then dump it at the very place you took it to in the first place.

Advertise it on freecycle as hardcore, Ive read on another MSE thread that plenty of people are in need of it - and the best part is, they will collect...

Our local tip won't let vans in at all, even if you hire one to dump your own rubbish... as i found out having hired a van and filled it!

I make quiet a few trips to the tip, I'm not a professional builder, but do a lot of DIY in my spare time. I was considering replacing my car with van, but brought a large MPV with removalable seats simply because I can take that in the tip!

Actually, a skip isn't a bad idea. You can hire them for around £50 which if you add up the cost and time of multiple tip visits is pretty cheap.

I advertised in the local paper free ads and found someone who wanted rubble to fill a hole and I delivered it for free.

Would love to know where you get a skip for £50???

For goodness sake, it's ridiculous, isn't it?!

At our local tip they would let you dump that provided they don't suspect you are a builder (ie any DIY dumping is allowed).

Do they want to encourage fly tipping?!!!!!!!!

ours is the same as long as you put it in the right place, but then ours will also come and collect from the garden as long as you tell them exactly what they've to collect and it's not trade waste, some councils seem to want rubbish to just evaporate!
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

It's pretty riculous isn't it! When we moved flat, my OH and his step-dad went to take some of the banana boxes we'd used for moving to the skip as they were pretty tatty by that stage and no good to anyone else. We'd been the previous day with some more flattened boxes and cardboard and no-one said anything. But that day, the guy decided that we must own a shop or something like that and we saying that they couldn't put the flattened boxes in!!

Eventually another guy turned up and dumped lots of the same kinda stuff (must have recently moved in too), and so the tip guy said ok, you can put in your stuff! What was the point in that?! If he'd bothered to look at what they were trying to dump anyway, he'd have read my messy marker pen writing of what was in all the different boxes! :o

If you live on a main road/busy road and have hardcore or large items to get rid of - put a big sign up saying "FREE HARDCORE" or similar - my DH is a builder and they collect all sorts of stuff like this - reduces costs and happy householder!! most stuff is barely out a day.

Or try Ebay - builders often search locally on Ebay for free hardcore.

When this happens just ignore them and dump it in the skip. They are only council employees and bin men at that.Hardest bit for me is getting on the tip.Once I am on no one is stopping me tipping. If you stand up to them they tend to walk away as they dont want the grief and will always take the path of least resistance a bit like stewards at football matches.

Our local "recycling centre" (tip) is the same, they are all jobsworths. They once called my father (67) a stupid old fool because he took a bag of rubbish (it was soiled paper from the litter of puppies they had) and would not put it in the paper skip, he told them if they would like to sort it out they were more than welcome to. They soon changed their mind when they looked in the bag.

My husband is always getting banned from there as well, him and his mate love going down there just to wind the operatives up because they are both large lads and twice the size of any of the people at the "recycling centre". So they just throw it a lot in the non recyclable skip, he does separate what he can but does get fed up.

I relaise they have a job to do but they don't need to be so rude.
