I can't believe they didn't let you dump the hardcore! Our local recycling centre has a hardcore skip for this even though it isn't recycleable. I was once took 3 car loads full of hardcore to the tip when we dug up an old patio-no qus asked.
Seems very odd.
If you are doing a lot of work on your place maybe a skip wiould be more economical rather than paying the petrol and your time and effort loading and unloading the car?
I'd write to your local council though, asking why your BF wasn't allowed to drop off the hardcore as it is a tip, and the unhelpful nature of the staff at the tip, etc, etc and see what happens.
Good luck,
Bf0 -
I don't see the problem!

This is a tricky one.
Technically the operators were enforcing the rules and by his/your own admission your BF didn't help the situation.
These tips are often run by contractors and the council may have been keeping a close eye on them, with a review to who gets the next contract. Hence I cannot blame the contractors for enforcing the rules - it is their livelihood after all.
However, in his defence I can understand why he did what he did. To suddenly have rules being enforced when you probably didn't even know they existed in the first place does put people out a bit.
I have been turned away from our local tip once for having around a tonne of hardcore, when their limit is half a tonne. I suspect that they were having a bit of a campaign at the time. The only reason I was there in the first place was because the field I was using to dump in (with the land owner's permission) was inaccessible due to bad weather. I had to pay a private waste site to tip it there
My response was to accept his decision - I didn't have to like it. I need those guys to be on my side.
In your situation I would consider the following:
Take the rubbish to the tip yourself, in another car if you can.
Ask your BF to write apologising/expressing regret for his actions, asking for a full copy of their rules and regulations and suggesting that the facility is made available to him on a trial basis on the condition that you keep to the rules.
Transer ownership of the car to you and explain that the car is yours and you cannot be held accountable for his actions. After all it is him who misbehaved, not you. Then you should be able to use the tip.

I had this problem years ago when we were renovating a house. We used to stack the trailer full of stuff and then do a raid, quickly offloading as much as possible. We were once told off for giving some bricks to someone else who wanted them "it's not a transfer station".
The problem seemed to be that the council payed a private contractor to run the tip and they had to pay for disposal of the rubbish. So they set a low limit on the amount you could dump.Do they want to encourage fly tipping?!!!!!!!!
The sort of solution to the OPs situation is to use another car and maybe hide the heavy stuff under some other rubbish and do some covert tipping whilst there.Happy chappy0 -
To those of you sugesting a skip have a heart My kitchen is being done on such a tight budget if I have to pay out for a skip that will eat into my even tighter budget for my bathroom.
