Tescos join free worker rush

  • This absolutely is the right place for this subject; what is happening is beyond immoral and possibly verging on criminal. I am not sure how Tesco are allowed to get away with this - or why the DWP/JCP seem to agree with it by allowing the position to be publicised via their site!
I have seen a couple of examples of this in my area - though not for Tesco - and have tried taking steps towards making a complaint a higher level than the jobsworth who answers the phone.
I have posted on here about it - as have others - and also on Comment is Free on The Guardian website.
If this is allowed to continue, there will be no end to it!

I thinks its absolutley disgraceful expecting someone to work for nothing when they clearly have the means to pay them. What about the right to be paid?

But surely it stops them sitting at home and getting demotivated.
Work is more than just money its about self respect and getting some pride back.

As we know Tesco is a very large organization and you never know where a free replacement may lead to.

Also the Job Centre Managers are only targeting claimants who fail to demonstrate their commitment to find another job. So it is up to the claimant to prove the JC wrong and demonstrate they are making every effort. This in turn would remove the need to work for nothing. However they are being paid benefits.

By the way as a consumer I never shop there.
  • @vax2002 - I hope this isn't a p*** take my friend

I will give you the benefit of the doubt but that job reference is not coming up in a search.

Where is the self respect in working for nothing? It will lead to nothing that's the problem, Did I hear its less than 10% of people get perminant work through this scheme

if they have a job to offer they should offer it at the normal wage paid for night shifts

    Would you do it?

How motivating is it to go to work and receive no pay (don't start with the work-for-benefits argument)?

Alongside paid workers doing the same as you?

To have no employee rights, protection, benefits?

Tol be "let go" at a moments notice when the next bunch of free workers are installed?

    Please.

Yes, it is tough to be out of work - it is also not unusual. But is DOES NOT ALWAYS LEAD TO LACK OF MOTIVATION ANY MORE THAN THESE perverted schemes or working in a s****y job.

A person is more than what they do to earn money !!!!!!.

    * Veerry poor use of the English language there.

I did along with millions of other 16-18 year olds in the 1980's. Back then the scheme that was the equivalent was the YTS. I got two jobs through that.

First job was as a draughtsperson with an engineering company called Burton Engineering who manufactured commercial printers such as those used to make newspapers.
Second was a bench engineer at a company called Euromax Electronics.

    Oh. my. God.

I thought that I was behind the times when I referred to the last decade.

This is not the place for such patronising bulltwaddle.
