, but your OH getting his face covered in spermicide during the premable is gross. Obvioulsy you may not partake in such activities so it may not bother you, but it certainly did me.
Twas a total turnoff all round.
Tried the cervical cap too. That was a no go either.... in fact it was such a no go we took a chance and thats how number 4 came along.:oThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I remember it well
. Still, it taught me a lot about my own anatomy (and i'm not being rude either).

Yes, who'd have thought your cervix feels the same as the end of your nose or just how deep it is in there.
I can't even feel by mirena strings now, infact no-one can, they would have to have fingers as long edward scissor hands (but not sharp obvioulsy).Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I'm surprised how many had coils fitted by the GP, mine was done by a nurse with specialist training.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

well, I've been and got it!
Ive been given 2 different sizes to try during the week to see which one fits better.
was fun and games in the clinic as the nurse had to go and get an older, more experienced nurse because she had never done that before! also got a big bag of condoms to use while I decide which diaphragm is better.
thanks again for all the responses!!0 -
Good luck, hope it works for you. And remember, spermicide, spermicide and more spermicide!Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Did you have the clamps used because your cervix is tilted? I was told that because my cervix is tilted that if i had the mirena coil fitted (because of heavy periods), that clamps may have to be used and its scared me off having it done!
I did m'love and I had it fitted for the exact same reason as you. It was used to draw it down so it could be held in place and the coil inserted.
I had 2 co-codamols approx 2 hours before hand as obv you mostly have it fitted at the end of your period and I have serious period pains so was taking my meds (that, naproxen and Trans acid).
Felt some prodding around whilst measured and the attempted insertions etc but no pain. Just a bit of uncomfortable fiddling :rotfl: They can put anaesthetic gel on your cervix apparently, I didn't find out anything about pain relief until they were done (nurses and special family clinic doctor) as they told me I'd been really brave cos most people have the anaesthetic  :rotfl: I just laid on the bed and waited for it to be done (with my fists under my hips to try help :rotfl: So dignified :rotfl: ) Was done and out in half hour and that includes questions from the doctor and the waiting time for them to call me through.
It it helps my experience is: period finished as normal. No pains that night other than period pains (ie - no worse than usual), minimal spotting for the first month, a faint ache around the bottom of my spine (not painful or debilitating, just well... there. I guess where the ovaries or whatever wasn't happy are :rotfl: ) periods are lighter and with my meds (same as the ones above) they are nothing. Without the meds they're well... normal with the occasionally heavy day but NOTHING like before. Best part is next to no period pains at all.
Apparently it takes 6 months or so to bed in and I had it done at the end of July so I'm now in my 7th month so we'll see what happens from here on in. Again though, just my experience, could be totally different for the next person. I don't regret having it done in the slightest and I'm glad it lasts 5 yearsPrincess Sparklepants0 -

That did make me laugh! But more seriously if no one can feel your strings, have you been scanned to make sure it is still in?
My strings disappeared a while ago, and I was told that it was easy to hook them back down into the cervix. Doctor tried for a while, it wasn't very comfortable and he wasn't very successful so he sent me off for a scan, where we discovered the darn thing had fallen out without my noticing. Apparently if you do still have a bleed, it can come out and go straight down the loo without being noticed . They are a lot smaller than I had envisaged.0 -
I was also on the pill for quite a long time before I had my daughter but got taken off due to high blood pressure. After having my daughter I though about contraception for a while but didn't much like the sound of any of them.
So while I don't recommend this we have been useing the withdrawal method for 6 years with great success. My partner is well controlled and very good at it lol.
Also for us another pregnancy while not planned would not be the end of the world so far it has worked out well for us, but it is not recommended as there is a risk of getting pregnant, higher the most contraceptions I would imagine0
